About Residential Architecture
Why We Design Homes
I don’t see architecture as just making buildings. For me, it’s about creating spaces that actually talk to their surroundings. I want your home to feel like it’s part of the land, not just sitting on top of it. The idea is to slow things down, let you notice nature, and make the house a window to the world outside.
How I Approach Each Project
- I try to blur the lines between indoors and outdoors. Courtyards, gardens, water - all flow together, so you feel like you’re living with nature, not away from it.
- Every home is shaped by where it sits. From designing deep verandahs for the Mumbai rains to a roof that borrows from Kutch embroidery, I want your home to belong to its place.
- Materials matter. I’m big on things that age well: lime plaster, stone, charred timber, brass. They feel real, and they change over time.
- I use natural light as a tool. Skylights, openings, voids - they create a dance of light and shadow, so your home always feels alive.
Spaces I’ve Made
- Quiet retreats in Alibag with arches and circular skylights for slow living.
- Tropical homes with stone walls and infinity pools, where nature can slowly take over.
- Urban sanctuaries in Mumbai with winding staircases, marble, stone, wood. Calm in the middle of city chaos.
My Process
- Start with models and sketches, play with space and light.
- Plan every detail, work with landscape folks, pick materials carefully.
- I stick around for construction, working with craftsmen to get things right.
Where I Work
I design second homes, villas, luxury apartments, and mountain retreats, mostly in Mumbai, Alibag, Kutch, and the Himalayas.

My Story
We’re Architecture BRIO, split between Mumbai and Rotterdam, but really, we’re just a bunch of folks who like mixing things up. Shefali and Robert lead us, but everyone’s got their hands dirty—sketches, models, arguing over materials. We’re not into flashy stuff. More about quiet, slow living, making spaces that talk to their environment. If a family’s bird-watching in a garden we made, that’s a win. We want homes that feel like sanctuaries, not showrooms.
My Work
What We Do - Full design studio - residential architecture, interiors, plus landscape design with our expert friends.
Designing with Nature - We make buildings have a dialogue with nature, blurring inside-outside. Nothing beats nature, we just join the conversation.
Hands-on Process - We sketch, build models, geek out over details. Like carving a gutter from one stone, aiming for timeless slow living architecture.
Co-Creation - We work with clients, artisans, landscape folks—co-creating introverted home design, not just handing over blueprints.
Spaces That Age Well - We design elemental living interiors—villas that feel like labyrinths of leisure, city flats with quiet corners. Not just walls.
