About this collection
When I adapt a Bollywood classic or a ghazal for the sitar, I focus on preserving the soul of the original melody while exploring the instrument's natural resonance. I perform these pieces as a solo set or with a professional tabla accompanist, providing a melodic, non-intrusive backdrop that encourages conversation rather than demanding total silence from your guests.
How I Adapt Film Music
Playing film and ghazal melodies is a different exercise than pure classical music. While my roots are in the Guru-Shishya tradition, I enjoy bringing those techniques to popular songs by legends like Lata Mangeshkar and Ghulam Ali. My approach is to capture the 'mood' or the bhaav of the song so it feels familiar yet distinct on the sitar.
Where This Fits Best
This style is versatile and works well for events where you want elegance without the strict formality of a classical concert. It is ideal for:
- Corporate Dinners: Providing a sophisticated yet relaxed background atmosphere.
- Wedding Receptions: Setting a romantic and nostalgic tone during cocktails or dining.
- Family Gatherings: Creating a warm, pleasant vibe for poojas or house parties.
Technical Setup
To ensure the music is clear regardless of the venue size, I use a high-quality 'Buddha Pickup' microphone system. This allows the sitar to be amplified naturally, maintaining the acoustic texture of the instrument. For smaller rooms, I bring my own portable amp. For larger venues or hotels, I simply plug into your existing PA system.
I am happy to take song requests, but please share your list at least 3 days in advance so I can practice and ensure the arrangement sounds perfect for your event.
Aniruddha Joshi
Music is my prayer, and my sitar is how I connect with people beyond the concert hall. Whether it is a soulful ghazal or a classic film melody, I bring my traditional training to these popular tunes to create an atmosphere that is both nostalgic and calm. I am always happy to take requests if you have a specific song in mind for your guests.
