About Live Classical Concerts
For these classical recitals, we follow the traditional 'Baithak' format—a seated performance where the sitar and tabla are at the same level as the audience. This setup creates a direct, intimate energy, ideal for smaller venues or formal music society events. If you are hosting a larger auditorium concert, we adjust the amplification for the space, ensuring the subtle nuances of the Raga reach every corner without losing the natural acoustic feel.
The Tradition of Shastriya Sangeet
My concerts are centered around the Guru-Shishya parampara. Whether you are hosting a small gathering or a public festival, my goal is to present pure Indian classical music (Shastriya Sangeet) that invites deep listening. I specialize in both solo sitar recitals and traditional sitar-tabla jugalbandi, where the interplay between the two instruments forms the core of the experience.
Performance Formats
- Baithak Style: An intimate, seated performance perfect for music connoisseurs. This creates a quiet, focused atmosphere where the audience can truly appreciate the Raga.
- Concert/Stage: For larger auditoriums or public events, I provide a professional setup. I use a 'Buddha Pickup' microphone system which maintains the natural tone of the sitar, even when amplified for larger crowds.
What to Expect
Every concert is tailored to the time of day and the mood of the occasion. We begin with a slow, meditative Alaap and Jod, gradually moving into the faster Drut composition. If you have a specific request for a Raga, I am happy to discuss this in advance.
My setup is designed to be as non-intrusive as possible. I typically arrive 45 minutes before guest entry for a thorough sound check to ensure everything is perfect. All I require from the venue is a standard PA system for larger halls, while I bring my own portable amplification for smaller spaces (up to 30 people).
