Mastering Contact Staff Flow Arts
It’s less about perfect form and more about finding your own rhythm. Whether you're aiming for your first clean body roll or just want to decompress, let's get you moving.
This video captures the two sides of contact staff flow. You can see me practicing some foundational moves on the beach during the day, and then lighting up a fire staff for a performance after dark.
A look at a practice session in a studio, focusing on clean technique and fluid movement. This is where I drill the moves that make the staff feel weightless and connected to my body.

About Contact Staff Sessions
The biggest hurdle to learning contact staff isn't coordination—it's letting go of the fear of dropping it. In my sessions, we use weighted practice props that help you find that pivot point, so you can master body rolls and stalls without the stress of aiming for perfection on day one.
Your Path to Flow
I treat contact staff as a mix of physical coordination and movement meditation. It’s not just about spinning a stick; it’s about learning how to manipulate momentum. My sessions are designed for absolute beginners, so don’t worry if you’ve never touched a prop before. We start with the basics—grip, wrist mobility, and plane control—before moving into foundational moves like the weave or simple chest rolls.
The Practical Side
- No Pressure: We keep group sizes small (5–15 people) to ensure you actually get feedback. It’s okay to mess up.
- Equipment: I provide all practice props. You don’t need to buy anything to start.
- Biomechanics: I break down the movement so you understand how the staff interacts with your body, not just how to mimic a trick.
If you’re looking for a new way to decompress after a long day of coding or desk work, this is it. We’ll get you comfortable with the basics, help you build a consistent practice routine, and maybe even film a quick clip so you can see your progress—because seeing yourself flow for the first time is usually the moment everything clicks.
