A beautiful moment of interaction with a young, aspiring artist during a tabla solo in Kolkata. Teaching is a dialogue, and I learn so much from my students' curiosity and passion.

About Tabla Workshops & Classes
My approach is built on direct, hands-on feedback. In our 1-on-1 sessions, I use real-time Nikas (tone) analysis to correct your hand posture, finger weight, and wrist movement, ensuring you develop a clear, resonant sound. You also get WhatsApp support for review of your practice clips between our sessions, so you are never learning in isolation.
I teach what I learned from my Guru, Pt. Yogesh Samsi ji, focusing on the core principles of Punjab, Delhi, and Banaras gharanas. My goal is to pass down the traditional repertoire, including Kayda, Rela, Bandish, and Gat, to anyone who is truly dedicated to the craft.
How We Can Learn Together
- 1-on-1 Private Mentorship: This is best for those serious about traditional techniques. Each month includes 4 private sessions where we work on a curriculum tailored to your proficiency level. We focus on technique correction and improvisation.
- Live Group Workshops: These events are ideal for learning specific compositions in a group setting. They are 2-3 day intensive sessions that allow you to share the energy of collective practice and learn from peer observation.
- Pre-recorded Video Courses: For those who need flexibility, I offer structured video lessons for self-paced learning. These come with notation PDFs in English and Devanagari, and pre-set Riyaz routines to follow along.
The Philosophy of Riyaz
Teaching is a conversation. I encourage questions and focus on 'kuch upaj ang' (improvisation) once the foundations are strong. Riyaz is the soul of a musician's journey. My role is to guide your hands, but the commitment to daily practice must come from you. If you are ready to put in the work, I am here to guide your progress.
