About this collection

Shooting in Spiti isn't about studio lighting. It is about being ready when the light hits the peaks. I carry my Sony A7C II and drone into the high-altitude desert to catch the real journey, whether it is a 4x4 convoy navigating winding roads or the quiet of a frozen riverbed. If you are planning an expedition, I do not just tag along. I document the grit and the reality of the drive.

How I Document the High Altitude

The Spiti Valley is unforgiving. Temperatures drop, winds are harsh, and the terrain demands respect. My approach here is 'fly on the wall' documentation. I am not interested in staging portraits. I am looking for the moment the clouds break over a mountain pass, the dust kicking up behind a Jimny, or the silence inside a centuries-old monastery.

I use a Sony A7C II for its dynamic range, which is critical when you are dealing with the harsh contrast of snow against shadowed valleys. For the wide perspectives, I use drone footage to give context to how small we really are against the Himalayas.

What to Expect

  • Expedition Coverage: I join 4x4 convoys to film the travel experience, including drone clips and ambient audio that captures the sound of the road.
  • Cinematic Stills: I avoid heavy flash setups. I rely on natural light to get those moody, vintage-style colors that define the desert landscape.
  • Raw Atmosphere: My editing focuses on preserving the atmospheric haze and the textures of the stone and snow, not smoothing everything out into a perfect digital image.

Planning Your Shoot

If you are hiring me for a Spiti expedition, we need to talk about the route beforehand. I prefer to know if you are focused on off-roading, landscape photography, or documentary-style storytelling. This helps me decide which gear to prioritize and how I move with your group. I am used to shooting in challenging environments, from the mud of a festival to the sub-zero wind of the Kaza peaks. Let’s make something real that captures the soul of the journey.

I find my freedom on the road, from Mumbai’s chaotic streets to the absolute silence of Spiti’s frozen rivers. My lens is my way of documenting the journey, seeking out the soul of every place I visit rather than just the postcard view.
