Materiality and Craftsmanship in Residential Design
We believe spaces gain character through the honest application of natural materials. From ribbed walnut and reclaimed teak to cast-in-situ terrazzo, we prioritize tactile authenticity over ornamentation.

Intricate details matter. This custom-made brass jaali screen in the Terrazzo Residence is a modern interpretation of a traditional Indian design element, adding a layer of delicate craftsmanship.

About Materiality & Craftsmanship
When we select materials, we are not just looking at the visual finish. We consider how the grain of recycled Burma teak or the texture of cast-in-situ terrazzo will age over time. This approach requires us to source directly from trusted suppliers and work alongside specialized craftsmen who understand how to handle these natural substrates. While this process means accounting for meticulous hand-finishing, the result is a home that gains character with every passing year rather than one that fades with fleeting trends.
Our philosophy centers on the conviction that a space should reveal its layers slowly. In our Mumbai projects, from luxury apartments in Pali Hill to weekend homes in Karamsad, we focus on material integrity as the primary design driver. We avoid mass-produced surfaces in favor of elements that possess inherent warmth and history.
Why Material Selection Matters
Material choice is the difference between a static room and a living environment. We prioritize:
- Recycled Burma Teak: Chosen for its rich history and structural resilience, we apply it to floors, doors, and furniture frames.
- Cast-in-Situ Terrazzo: By casting floors on-site with brass dividers, we ensure a seamless surface that reflects light and provides a grounded, cool foundation.
- Natural Stone: We utilize locally sourced granites and marbles, focusing on honed or matte finishes that feel soft underfoot rather than overly reflective high-gloss surfaces.
The Craft of Construction
Design is only as strong as the execution. We collaborate with teams who specialize in traditional techniques, such as lime plastering and intricate joinery. Whether we are detailing a custom brass jaali screen or fitting marine-grade plywood with integrated handles, every connection is designed for longevity. We believe in reducing waste through smart planning, ensuring that our timber and stone are utilized with maximum efficiency. This rigorous attention to detail ensures that the final result is a home that feels both refined and deeply personal.
