About this collection
In every project I take on, the living and dining areas serve as the pulse of your home. My approach focuses on creating an open-plan layout that invites natural light, often using custom wooden partitions or double-height ceilings to visually link these spaces without losing their distinct function. Whether you are designing a compact apartment in Bangalore or a sprawling villa in Calicut, my priority is keeping the flow seamless and constantly connected to your garden or courtyard.
Designing these zones is about more than aesthetics; it is about how you move through your home. My process starts with analyzing how your family lives. If you value a quiet morning, I prioritize positioning the dining area near a window or green space to give you a calm start to the day. If you entertain often, I design the living room to expand into the dining hall, ensuring guests can move freely without feeling cramped.
Materiality and Warmth
I do not believe in fake finishes. For these spaces, I use real, tactile materials: exposed brick, laterite stone, and solid wood. These materials age gracefully and bring a sense of history into a modern home. You will often see me incorporate gypsum ceilings with wooden rafters or PU-coated metal partitions that act as both art and room dividers.
Custom Furniture Design
Standard furniture often misses the mark in homes with unique dimensions. I design custom dining tables, often with sculptural legs or unique wood grains, to anchor the dining room. I also focus on lighting that isn't just functional but architectural—think large bamboo pendant lights or magnetic track systems that highlight specific textures on your walls.
The Nature Connection
My goal is to erase the boundary between your interior and the outdoors. By installing large sliding glass doors or floor-to-ceiling windows, I ensure your living room feels like an extension of your lawn or courtyard. This isn't just about views; it is about cross-ventilation and keeping your home naturally cool throughout the year.
VM Architects
I am Vinay, and I view the living room as more than just a place to sit. It is where your story unfolds, which is why I balance traditional Kerala elements with a clean, modern aesthetic in every design. Let us create a space that feels both grounded and refreshingly new.
