About Rock Villa: A Modern Farm Resort
For the Rock Villa, the priority was connecting the indoors to the surrounding landscape without compromising on privacy. We used a glass facade to frame the pool and hills, but we also had to plan the climate orientation to keep the interiors cool despite the large glass surface. If you are planning a farmhouse, think about your sunlight paths and movement flow before you decide on the exterior aesthetics; design is about how you move through the space, not just how it looks from the road.
Building a farm resort is different from designing a standard home. At the Rock Villa in Wakadi, our approach was to create a destination that feels like a getaway but works like a residence.
The Glasshouse Concept
We chose a glass-walled structure to ensure that the panoramic views of the Panvel landscape are never blocked. This isn't just for looks. By using strategically placed glass, we bring natural light deep into the living spaces, reducing the need for artificial lighting during the day. We balanced this with heavy roof overhangs and proper orientation to handle the harsh sun, ensuring the villa stays comfortable throughout the year.
Why 'Function Plus Feel' Matters
When we plan resorts, we focus on the experience of the user. For instance, the transition from the pool deck to the living area is designed to be seamless, creating a social hub for weekend guests. We included technical elements like pool filtration placement and drainage planning early in the design stage, so the aesthetic isn't ruined by messy utility pipes later.
