Aerial Yoga Classes for Strength and Flexibility
Discover the freedom of aerial yoga. Whether you want to build core strength, decompress your spine, or just find a playful way to move, these hammock flows are designed for every body.
This is the kind of deep, supported stretch we can achieve in my classes. Using the aerial hammock, I guide you into poses like this standing split, which helps improve flexibility and balance far beyond what you might achieve on the mat alone. It’s a challenging yet incredibly rewarding posture.
Aerial yoga can also be a shared experience. Here, we are demonstrating a partner pose that builds trust, communication, and shared strength. It combines a downward dog on the mat with a supported aerial inversion, creating a beautiful and connected shape.
Experience the joy of flying. This sequence shows a transition into a horizontal free-flying pose, which is amazing for building core and back strength. My classes teach you how to move with control and grace as you learn to lift off the ground.
We use the hammock as a tool to safely explore challenging inversions like this supported headstand, or Sirsasana. The fabric provides stability for your legs, allowing you to focus on alignment and build the confidence to hold the pose, all while enjoying the benefits of being upside down.
It's not all about intense poses. A big part of my practice is finding moments of release and gentle movement. Here, I'm using the hammock for a light, suspended swing that helps decompress the spine and brings a sense of calm and playfulness to the session.
This video shows a dynamic flow, moving from a suspended squat into a supported warrior pose. My classes focus on these fluid transitions, helping you build functional strength and coordination by combining traditional yoga asanas with aerial techniques.
Here is a great example of how the hammock supports strength training. This is a suspended lunge, an exercise that deeply targets the glutes and quads while also challenging your balance. We incorporate these fitness-focused movements for a well-rounded workout.
About Featured
The hammock is more than a prop for fancy photos—it’s a support system that changes how you relate to gravity. In my classes, we use it to safely deepen stretches and access inversions that might feel intimidating on the floor. Whether you are working through back pain or simply looking to add resistance to your movement, the fabric gives you the confidence to try things you thought were out of reach. It’s about building strength from the inside out, one controlled flow at a time.
Why Aerial Yoga?
Aerial yoga—often called hammock yoga—is a unique blend of traditional asanas, Pilates, and dance. By suspending your body weight in a soft, durable hammock, you alleviate pressure on your joints while increasing your range of motion. It’s a game-changer for anyone dealing with tight shoulders or lower back stiffness, as the gentle hanging positions provide natural spinal decompression.
My Approach in Sector 61
My home studio in Sector 61 is built for small, focused groups. I cap each session at 6 students because I prioritize manual spotting and alignment checks. You aren’t just a number in a crowded hall. We work with:
- Core Conditioning: Suspended planks and crunches that engage your stabilizer muscles differently than floor work.
- Fear Management: Yes, hanging upside down can be scary. We start low to the ground until you’re comfortable, and I’m right there to guide you through every transition.
- Therapeutic Flow: For those with sciatica or thyroid issues, we adapt the poses to ensure you’re healing, not straining.
Practical Details
- Gear: I provide the high-quality Nylon Tricot hammocks and anti-slip mats. You just need to bring comfortable clothing.
- Session Types: I offer single drop-in sessions for those testing the waters, and monthly subscriptions for those ready to build a consistent practice. No monthly contracts, no pressure.
- Levels: Beginners are absolutely welcome. You don’t need to be 'fit' to start; you just need to be willing to show up.
