About Solo Tabla & Rhythmic Explorations
I do not just play the tabla, I explore the 'taal', the cycle of time. Every piece here, from a rare 'kaida' by Pt. Jailal Misra ji to my own 'bedam farmaishi' in a 7-beat cycle, is an attempt to stay true to my training while finding a personal voice on the instrument.
Learning the tabla is a lifelong process of surrendering to the rhythm. My practice sessions are where the real work happens, as I spend hours deciphering complex time signatures and understanding how a simple 'bol' can transform into a structured composition.
I believe in the sanctity of the compositions passed down by the masters. When I play a 'kaida' or a 'chakradar', I am not just performing, I am engaging with history. Whether it is a 5-beat cycle that challenges my dexterity or a 7-beat 'farmaishi' I have composed, my focus is always on the clarity of 'dha', the resonance of 'dhin', and the precision of the 'tehai'.
What to expect in this collection
- Traditional Kaidas: Rare compositions from the gharanas, including works by Pt. Shankar Ghosh ji and Pt. Jailal Misra ji.
- Rhythmic Experiments: My attempts at twisting classic pieces into modern time signatures to see how they breathe in a new context.
- Technical Deep-Dives: Clips of 'Antakshari Chakradars' and other complex arrangements that require years of training to master.
Music is a conversation. Even in solo performances, I feel the presence of my gurus guiding my hands. If you are looking for an authentic tabla experience, whether for a concert or to understand the intricacies of Indian rhythm, these pieces are a testament to my dedication to this instrument. I am always happy to discuss a specific 'taal' or the theory behind a composition if you are curious to learn more.
