From Basics to Big Flips: Gymnastics Skill Progression
We guide every student through the exact technical steps needed to master advanced aerials safely, starting with basic conditioning and floor work.
Every session starts with a proper warm-up. Here, our young gymnasts prepare their bodies for training, building a foundation of discipline and preventing injuries.
Flexibility is fundamental. Our students work on their splits and other stretches, developing the range of motion essential for gymnastics performance and overall fitness.
Building upper body strength is key. Our youngest students practice handstands against the wall and other conditioning exercises, making fitness fun and engaging.
The joy of mastering a new skill. This video shows a young girl practicing her cartwheels and other floor exercises during our energetic summer camp.
Practice makes perfect. Watch one of our students perfect her side aerial, a dynamic tumbling skill that combines power, coordination, and grace.
Our air track provides a safe, bouncy surface for learning advanced tumbling. This student practices her back handspring, building the confidence needed to perform it on the floor.
Dare to flip. Our students learn advanced tumbling and flips, developing incredible aerial awareness and control in a safe, supervised environment.
About this collection
It isn't just about the flips you see in the gallery; it's about the hours of conditioning on our foam pits and air tracks that get you there. We break down every movement, from a basic bridge to a side aerial, so students build genuine physical awareness rather than just mimicking a pose. Our coaches at the Jakkuru and Kalyan Nagar centers focus on the mechanics of every landing, ensuring physical strength precedes the skill.
Building Gymnastics Skills Safely
Progression in gymnastics is rarely linear. It relies on a blend of repetitive conditioning, apparatus familiarity, and mental confidence. At Twistars, we remove the guesswork by scaffolding every skill.
The Three Phases of Progression:
- Foundational Conditioning: Before attempting a handstand or a back handspring, we build core stability and balance. This includes floor exercises, ladder drills, and specific plank variations that prepare the joints for impact.
- Apparatus Integration: We use professional-grade equipment—foam pits, uneven bars, and air tracks—to allow students to practice advanced maneuvers without the risk of hard landings. This is where the 'fear factor' disappears.
- Technical Refinement: Once the movement is safe, we refine the form. Whether it's the tuck shape for a flip or the extension in a balance beam pose, we focus on the small details that change a 'try' into a completed move.
Why Our Approach Works
We operate with a low student-to-coach ratio (approximately 1:10), which allows our coaches to provide hands-on manual spotting. Whether you are coming to us for the 1-week introductory camp at our Jakkuru or Kalyan Nagar branches, or you are looking for long-term skill development, the methodology remains the same: discipline, repetition, and immediate, constructive feedback. We don't just teach the flip; we teach the discipline required to control your body through the air.
Twistars Gymnastics
We’re Twistars, and we think of our gym more like a big, noisy family. You’ll find coaches like Vinayak and Swaroop right there on the floor, cheering you through a cartwheel or helping you stick that landing.
