Modern Indian Home Interior Design: Vishu Home Project
A collaboration centered on balancing modern, understated luxury with deep-rooted Indian tradition in a sprawling 1950 sqft Mumbai apartment.
The living and dining area of 'Vishu Home' showcases a bold design statement. A striking red arched console table adds a vibrant pop of color against the neutral textured wall, while the blue dining chairs provide a cool contrast.
We believe in creating harmony between different materials. Here, the cool, rugged texture of the slate stone TV wall is balanced by the warmth of the wooden media console and the soft, printed fabric of the daybed.
This outdoor bar area is a perfect example of bringing the indoors out. The slate stone wall continues from the living room, creating continuity, while the simple black bar stools and potted plants make it a chic, green escape.
The study in 'Vishu Home' is a minimalist's dream. A clean white desk and a transparent ghost chair create a sense of lightness and space, set against a white brick-textured wall for a touch of industrial chic.
The guest bedroom is a welcoming space with a pop of personality. A rust-colored headboard and vibrant modern art piece contrast with the cool grey tones of the wardrobe and walls, creating a balanced and stylish room.
We used a calming palette of blues in this bedroom to create a restful sanctuary. The deep blue headboard and teal bed linens are complemented by the softer blue-grey tones of the paneled wall.
A closer look at the outdoor bar area. The combination of terracotta and green floor tiles with the grey stone wall creates a dark, dreamy backdrop that makes the lush green plants stand out beautifully.
A glimpse from the living area into the serene mandir space. This view highlights how we integrate distinct functional zones while maintaining a cohesive visual flow throughout the home.

About Project Showcase: Vishu Home
In this 1950 sqft apartment, we focused on balancing strong, earthy textures with soft daily comfort. The slate stone wall in the living area serves as a bold focal point, but it never feels cold because we paired it with warm teak wood and soft textiles. This approach creates a space that feels grounded and secure, providing a perfect backdrop for a modern family that values tradition.
Designing Vishu Home was a unique journey of collaboration between our studio and S.ALT Atelier. Our goal was to create a residence that honored traditional Indian values while embracing a contemporary, minimalist aesthetic.
We approached the layout by creating distinct zones that flow naturally into one another. The living area is the heart of the home, featuring a slate stone TV wall that introduces an industrial, rugged texture. To prevent the space from feeling clinical, we integrated warm teak wood furniture and soft furnishings in shades of blue and grey, creating a visual balance.
A key request from the family was to integrate spiritual elements without disrupting the home's modern flow. The mandir was positioned near the entrance, using brass artifacts and pure white stone to create a serene, distinct corner that respects tradition.
We also transformed the outdoor area into a functional bar space. By continuing the slate stone from the living room onto the balcony walls, we achieved visual continuity, making the balcony feel like an extension of the interior. The use of terracotta red floor tiles here adds a touch of earthy warmth, contrasting beautifully with the greenery.
Throughout the home, from the kitchen pantry with its mesh-fronted drawers to the study with its transparent ghost chair, every detail serves a purpose. It is a reflection of our belief that luxury is found in the harmony between materials, light, and the way a home supports your daily life.
