About this collection

Unlike wheel throwing, which demands strict balance and speed, hand-building is all about patience and tactile connection. You will use techniques like coiling, slab construction, and pinch pottery to create complex, organic forms—from abstract vases to whimsical sculptures—that a machine just cannot replicate.

Hand-building is the ultimate 'slow pottery' vibe. Because you aren't fighting centrifugal force, you have the freedom to take your time and obsess over the details. It is perfect if you want to make functional art like custom mugs or purely decorative pieces like quirky mushroom houses.

What we actually do:

  • Slab Building: We roll out slabs of clay to construct geometric or organic vessels. This is how you get those sharp edges and flat planes you see in our vase gallery.
  • Coiling: One of the oldest techniques in the book. We stack rolls of clay on top of each other to build height and unique, unpredictable shapes.
  • Pinching: The most direct way to work. You use your fingers to shape the clay, which gives everything that handmade, 'imperfect' look we love so much.

You do not need any experience to start. Whether you have never touched clay in your life or you’ve been doing this for a while, our studio is a space to get messy and experiment. We provide all the tools, the clay, and the firing—you just bring your enthusiasm and maybe a spare set of clothes, because you will get dirty.
