Our Favourites: Clay and Chaos from Trayah
A little taste of the beautiful, weird, and wonderful things that come out of our ‘Luru studio. It is a mix of our signature products, a peek into how we make them, and the general chaos we love.
We turned playing cards into porcelain art because, why not? This is the kind of boujee, extra project we live for. Each card is handcrafted, showing the incredible detail you can get with porcelain.
Meet our iconic boob mug. It's bold, it's body-positive, and it’s one of our most talked about pieces. We make them in all sorts of vibrant colors, each one celebrating the female form.
This sculptural vase is what happens when our hand-building artists get to play. The intricate carving and organic shape make it a true statement piece for any space, with or without flowers.
Get lost in the process with us. This is the satisfying moment of carving wave patterns into a hand-built bowl, giving each piece a unique texture and feel. It’s all about those handmade details.
We’re obsessed with Sgraffito, and this mug shows why. We paint on a layer of color and then carve away to reveal the design underneath. This floral pattern is a student favorite.
Ever wanted to learn the Japanese art of Nerikomi? We host workshops where you can learn to create stunning patterns by stacking and slicing colored clay. This is your chance to get your hands dirty.
Is it a giant sharpener or a tissue box? Surprise, it’s both. We love making functional objects that are also ridiculously fun, and this hand-built ceramic piece is a perfect example of our studio's playful vibe.
About this collection
Every piece in this gallery was made right here in our Koramangala studio, and honestly, we get pretty attached to them. Whether it is a mug with a pocket for your tea bag or a vase inspired by our latest monsoon experiment, these pieces are as chaotic and real as we are. We make everything in small batches, so if you see something you like, just shoot us a message to check if it is still sitting on our shelves.
We are proper obsessed with making pots, and it shows in everything that comes out of the studio. You will not find mass-produced perfection here. We embrace wabi-sabi, which is just a fancy way of saying we love the drips, the asymmetry, and the little quirks that happen when you work with high-fired stoneware.
From our signature body-positive mugs to the 166 hand-painted tiles currently taking over our studio wall, everything has a story. We use techniques like Sgraffito for those intricate carvings and the Japanese Nerikomi method for stunning color patterns. We also develop our own 'Trana' glazes right here in Bangalore, so you get earthy, reactive colours that you genuinely will not find anywhere else.
Since we are a working studio, our inventory is always shifting. A piece you see in the gallery might be sitting on our display shelf today or currently being fired in our kiln. If you are curious about a specific vase or need a set of mugs for your morning coffee, reach out to us. We love showing people around the studio, and we are usually happy to take pre-orders if your favourite piece has already found a new home.
Trayah Pottery
We are Trayah, just a bunch of folks in Koramangala who are way too obsessed with clay. We spend our days teaching, making things that make us laugh, and creating stuff that adds a bit of weird, wonderful personality to your shelves.
