Quirky Decor & Sculptural Art
Where things get weird, in the best way possible. From porcelain playing cards to giant pencil sharpener tissue boxes, these one-of-a-kind art pieces were born from our wildest studio experiments.
Yes, these are real ceramic playing cards. One of our insanely talented students, Sruthi, made this entire porcelain deck as a farewell gift. We almost didn't let her leave with them.
Watch a hand sculpture come to life. This mesmerizing video shows our hand-building guru, Vanessa, sculpting this piece from a simple lump of clay. The level of detail is just OOF!
Just in time for next Halloween. Watch as we hand-build these adorable little ghosty tea-light holders. They’re a little bit spooky, a little bit cute, and 100% handmade.
A few of our favorite hand-painted tiles from our wall project. We’ve got everything from Batman and smiley faces to cookies and abstract patterns. Each one is a tiny piece of art.
A top-down view of our ceramic sharpener tissue box. We're still not over how cool this is. It’s proof that even the most everyday objects can be turned into art.
A close-up of the incredible detail on our porcelain playing cards. The translucency of the porcelain makes them feel extra boujee. We’re still trying to convince the artist to make more so we can actually play with them.
Can you play rummy with ceramic cards? We haven't tried yet, but we're tempted. Here’s a shot comparing our porcelain cards to a real deck.
The magic of porcelain. Here you can see how translucent the ceramic playing cards are when held up to a light source. This is why we peer-pressured the artist to remake them in porcelain.
Building a house of cards, but make it ceramic. This was a very delicate operation, but we had to see if it would work.
Laying out the full deck of our hand-painted porcelain playing cards. This project was a true labor of love and shows the amazing things that can be made with clay.
About Quirky Decor & Sculptural Art
Ever wonder what happens when you combine a love for pottery with a slightly unhinged creative streak? You get stuff like our giant sharpener tissue box and porcelain playing cards. Every piece here was born from a 'what if' moment in our studio—we don't believe in mass production, so the ceramic art you see is usually a one-off experiment that miraculously made it out of the kiln in one piece.
Why We Do It (And Why It’s Not Perfectly Boring)
Most people think pottery is just mugs and bowls. We think it’s a canvas for whatever random, chaotic thought pops into our heads. That sharpener tissue box? A direct result of staring at stationery for too long. The porcelain playing cards? Pure peer pressure and a desire to see if we could actually make something that felt as fancy as it looked.
The Process: From Clay to Chaos
We don't stick to one method. Depending on the day and our mood, we’re either wheel-throwing classic shapes or getting our hands dirty with slab-building and coiling to create these sculptural forms.
- Material Choice: We use high-fired stoneware (Cone 6) for our larger, durable pieces, but switch to fine porcelain when we want that delicate translucency—like those cards that keep everyone guessing.
- Hand-Painted Detailing: For our wall tiles and decor, we treat the clay like paper. We sketch, paint, and carve until it feels right.
- The 'Trayah' Vibe: If you see a piece that looks a little lopsided or has a glaze drip in an unexpected place, that’s not a mistake. That’s the wabi-sabi magic. It’s what happens when you prioritize soul over perfection.
Looking for something specific for your space? If you’ve got a weird idea or a custom project in mind, drop by the Koramangala studio. We’re always down to see if we can turn your random thought into a permanent ceramic piece.
