About Playful Beginnings: Music for Toddlers & Parents (Ages 1.5 - 4)
In these sessions, we don't just sit and listen. We use wooden sensory props, colorful scarves, and rhythmic shakers to turn Indian musical concepts into physical games. You aren't just observing; you are right there on the floor, using the 'Call and Response' technique to help your toddler develop pitch and rhythm, creating a shared language of music that continues long after the class ends.
Building a Foundation Through Play
Music for toddlers isn't about rote learning or perfect technique. At The Sound Space, we distill complex Hindustani classical ideas into 'Jungle Jugalbandi' and simple, engaging stories. We introduce the 7 Swaras (notes) through gentle, repetitive play that respects the short attention span of a growing child. It is about building a foundation for listening, focus, and patience, all while having fun.
What to Expect
Our sessions are crafted for connection. We run weekly 35 to 40-minute classes in child-safe, clean studio spaces across Mumbai, including Luminous Minds in Lower Parel, Seva Sadan in Gamdevi, and our spots in Malabar Hill and Bandra. We keep our batch sizes small, capped at 8 to 10 pairs, so your child gets the individual attention they need to feel comfortable and engaged.
Why This Works
By using 'Layakari' (rhythmic play) and movement, we turn abstract concepts into tangible experiences. Children learn to recognize high and low notes ('uncha' and 'neecha' swars) by moving their bodies rather than staring at a textbook. This approach builds confidence early on, teaching children that music is a form of expression they can own and enjoy rather than a subject to be mastered. Whether it is our sensory scarves or the 'Musical Antakshari' games, every activity is designed to spark a curiosity that stays with them throughout their early years.
The Sound Space
We are Kamakshi and Vishala, sisters on a mission to make music a part of every child's story. We built these classes as mothers ourselves, so we know that the most important thing isn't hitting the perfect note. It is the comfort and connection you build with your child while exploring sounds together.
