Hindustani Music Classes for Kids: Building Confidence & Foundation
We believe music should be a friend, not a chore. Our classes for children aged 4 to 11 turn the building blocks of Hindustani classical music—swars, taal, and rhythm—into a playground for creativity.

About Growing with Music: Classes for Kids (Ages 4 - 11)
Many parents worry that classical music training will feel too rigid or boring for their children. Here, we skip the rote learning and use games, movement, and our version of 'Musical Antakshari' to teach complex concepts like taal and raag. You will see your child not just memorize notes, but actually feel the rhythm and gain the confidence to perform at our annual showcases.
Our children's program is split into two levels to meet students where they are. In Level 1 (Beginners), the focus is on curiosity—finding pitch, understanding basic swars (notes), and learning how to listen. As students advance to Level 2 and the 'Madhyam' stage (ages 7-11), the curriculum deepens to include more structured vocal exercises, basic raagas, and the fundamentals of breathing (Pranayam) which helps with focus and calm.
We teach across multiple venues in Mumbai—from Malabar Hill and Girgaon to Worli and Tardeo—making it easier for parents to find a batch close to home. Because we run these classes in small, capped batches, our teachers can provide individual attention, ensuring no child feels left behind.
We also integrate holistic well-being into the curriculum. Music isn't just about the performance; it is about building patience and confidence. By the time students reach our annual 'Sakhya' showcase, they aren't just reciting a song—they are performing with an understanding of the structure and the joy of sharing music with others.
The Sound Space
We’re Kamakshi and Vishala. We started The Sound Space because we know music is the best friend a child can have. We’re moms and musicians who believe that if you make learning joyful, the music happens all on its own.
