About Behind the Seams: Our Process
It all starts with a conversation. Whether you are visiting my studio in Seawoods or connecting with me online, I begin by listening to your vision for the outfit. We sketch out the design, select the right fabric from my collection or yours, and take precise measurements to ensure the final piece is drafted specifically for your body.
From Concept to Final Fit
My process is built on collaboration. Once we have a design concept, my team of skilled karigars takes over the technical work. I oversee every step to ensure your outfit matches the sketch we created together.
1. The Foundation
Every garment needs a solid start. For gowns or lehengas, I focus on the structural drafting. This includes adding padded bodices, canvas fusing, and the correct volume of can-can to get that perfect flare. If you bring an old saree for upcycling, I personally map out the motifs to ensure we preserve the original work while giving it a fresh silhouette.
2. The Art of Embroidery
This is where the 'Shukrana' magic happens. Whether it is Zardosi, Kundan, or delicate beadwork, my team works on the embroidery panels before the final assembly. We focus on under-packing and concealed stitching, so the heavy work on the outside never irritates your skin on the inside.
3. Quality Check & Fitting
Before you pick up your outfit, I check the finishing touches. This involves inspecting the single needle lockstitch for durability, the interlock finishing, and ensuring the latkans and borders are secure. If you are local to Navi Mumbai, we schedule a fitting session. For those outside the city, I provide clear guidance to ensure the final fit is right.
