Our Architectural Process and Materiality
Architecture for us is a conversation with materials and the people who shape them. Here is a glimpse into the raw, hands-on construction journey behind our projects, where we blend traditional techniques like red oxide and brick weaving with modern structural needs.
The bamboo parasols at the TAPMI Centre are a testament to our collaborative process. This image shows the intricate steel framework being clad with individual bamboo pieces, a process that combines modern engineering with traditional craftsmanship.
We worked with local artisans to revive the craft of red oxide flooring at the TAPMI Centre. This image captures the meticulous, hands-on process of applying the red oxide, creating a vibrant, seamless surface for the community amphitheater.
The intricate brick facade of the Brick House required immense skill and patience. This site photo shows our team of artisans carefully placing each brick to create the complex, woven pattern that defines the building's character.
This detail shot shows the weathering process of a Corten steel gate we designed in Raipur. We choose materials that evolve over time, developing a natural patina that grounds the structure in its environment and tells a story of its own.
About The Art of Making: Process & Materiality
When you choose to build with us, you are opting for a process that values the artisan as much as the architect. We move beyond standard construction by testing physical models at our Bengaluru studio and collaborating directly with craftsmen on-site to refine every detail, whether it is a bamboo parasol structure or a complex brick-bond facade.
Materiality as Language
We believe in the inherent integrity of raw brick, concrete, bamboo, and black stone. These materials do not hide; they weather, age, and develop a patina that roots the building in its landscape. We select them not for their ease of use, but for the story they help tell about the place and the climate.
The Artisan Partnership
Architecture is a cultural force, not a product. At the TAPMI Centre, our work with bamboo parasols was not just an engineering feat but a revival of traditional skills adapted for a modern educational campus. We work hand-in-hand with local artisans to execute red oxide flooring and lime plaster finishes, ensuring that these ancestral techniques serve contemporary functions. This hands-on collaboration is how we ensure every finish feels intentional and authentic.
From Model to Structure
Our design process begins long before a ground-breaking. We build detailed scale models to test volumes, light, and shadow. This non-linear approach ensures that when we arrive at the site, the team understands the intent. Whether it is the corten steel gates in Raipur or the woven brick facades at our brick house projects, our focus remains on creating spaces that breathe and reflect the specific context of their location.
