Private Residences: Sanctuaries of Material & Light
We design homes as living narratives that unfold for their inhabitants. Using honest materials like brick, concrete, and stone, we create quiet, secluded sanctuaries where the play of light and shadow defines daily life.
Project 58 is a home where the landscape takes over, making the architecture porous. Here, a facade of custom terracotta blocks and cascading greenery creates a living skin that breathes, connecting the home to its garden and the street.
The central staircase in the Brick House is a sculptural element crafted from black pigmented lime plaster. It winds through the home, its sharp, geometric forms creating a dramatic contrast with the warm texture of the surrounding brick walls.
Light and shadow create a dynamic pattern on the staircase of Project 1374. The bold red wall contrasts with the dark, charred wood and the textured concrete, showcasing our approach to creating a rich, layered tapestry of materials.
This video captures the essence of our under-construction villa in coastal Karnataka. The design reinterprets concrete and stone as a spatial language, with volumes that shift, stretch, and compress to create a powerful internal presence.
Our workspace in Ulsoor, Bengaluru, is shaped by the warmth of its context. The design blurs the line between office and home, with a balcony of local red granite that opens up to the raintrees, grounding the space in its natural surroundings.
About Private Residences: Sanctuaries of Material & Light
Before we sketch a single line, we conduct a deep-dive site analysis, mapping sun paths, wind patterns, and existing tree canopies. This isn't just for orientation; it dictates how your home breathes. Whether we are planning for an inward-looking villa in coastal Karnataka or a porous residence in Bengaluru, we work with you to understand how you inhabit a space, ensuring every material, from black pigmented lime plaster to exposed red brick, serves both the climate and your way of living.
Our residential practice is built on the belief that a home should not just sit on the land, but emerge from it. We avoid the urge to dominate the site, preferring to let the landscape and local climate guide the form. This is why you will see us working with raw, honest materials—exposed concrete, brick, stone, and lime plaster—that age beautifully and ground the structure in its context.
Take Project 58, for instance, where we used a facade of custom terracotta blocks and lush greenery to create a living skin that makes the home truly porous. In the Brick House, we relied on black pigmented lime plaster for the staircase, creating a sculptural, geometric contrast against the warmth of traditional brick. These are not merely aesthetic choices; they are functional decisions meant to manage light, ventilation, and the sensory experience of living.
We design for the long term. From Project 1374 in Bengaluru to our ongoing coastal villas in Karnataka, our goal is to weave the memory of place into the fabric of the home. This requires a collaborative process where we test ideas through physical models and work closely with skilled local makers to revive traditional finishes like red oxide flooring. We want your home to be a quiet sanctuary, a space that feels both bold in its architectural expression and deeply familiar in its spirit.
