The Purple Ink Studio

We practice architecture as a cultural force, crafting modern narratives by reviving ancestral skills with local artisans. Our approach is a bold, non-linear exploration of memory and place.

We designed the TAPMI Centre in Manipal as a porous, democratic space for learning. The canopy of bamboo parasols creates a communal terrace, a modern interpretation of a village square, where students and faculty can gather, interact, and find inspiration under a man-made forest.

For this Bengaluru home, we challenged the shrinking of green spaces in dense urban areas. The structure unfolds as a series of staggered volumes, with gardens and trees woven into every level, creating a private sanctuary that breathes and extends the city's garden identity.

The Brick House in Mangalore is a sculptural monolith, an exploration of how a single material can create complex, expressive forms. Its exuberant yet grounded geometry redefines what it means to design for modern India, creating a living narrative rooted in culture and place.

The MARC Auditorium at the MAHE Bengaluru Campus is a vibrant landmark designed to be a hub of campus life. The bold, circular form, wrapped in shades of orange, stands as a testament to our belief in creating dynamic, community-centric public spaces.

Inside the Brick House, we explored the experiential qualities of honest materials. The interplay of light filtering through brick jalis, casting shadows on textured concrete walls and black stone floors, creates a quiet, contemplative atmosphere that is both intuitive and intentional.

We believe in blurring the boundary between the interior and the exterior. In this Bengaluru residence, the living space flows seamlessly onto a lush terrace, borrowing the surrounding trees into the home's narrative and fostering a deep connection with nature.

The facade for Idyllic in Indiranagar is our ode to pre-modern Indian architecture, reinterpreted for a contemporary urban streetscape. The monumental form, crafted from copper and glass blocks, serves as a gateway, hinting at the ceremoniously Indian experience that lies within.

At the Manipal School of Architecture, we used raw concrete and bold color to define the building's internal circulation. The interplay of volumes, voids, and staircases creates a non-linear journey, encouraging movement and spontaneous interaction within the academic space.

The TAPMI Centre in Manipal, an award-winning project where we designed a communal space sheltered by dramatic bamboo parasols. These structures emulate the surrounding trees, creating a porous, democratic area for interaction that is both monumental and deeply connected to nature.

In this Bengaluru residence, the dining area becomes a canvas for material richness. We juxtaposed bold green marble against warm wood and vibrant red chairs, using custom pendant lighting to create a sense of depth and resonance between space and memory.

For the Idylll restaurant, we created an immersive, earth-toned environment reminiscent of a monolith rising from the ground. The design uses a tactile palette of lime plaster, patterned granite, and custom terracotta artifacts to build a narrative rooted in timeless Indian traditions.

This private villa in Bengaluru showcases our concept of porous architecture, where the landscape becomes an integral part of the home. A facade of custom terracotta blocks and cascading greenery blurs the line between the built and the natural.

Circulation spaces within the MARC Auditorium are designed as cinematic thresholds. Here, a bold splash of yellow creates an atmospheric journey, guiding movement through a carefully choreographed play of color, light, and shadow.

In our design for the Ulsoor workspace, we brought the warmth of Old Bangalore indoors. A balcony with red oxide flooring opens up to the lush canopy of a raintree, making the natural context an active participant in the daily life of the office.

The rooftop terrace of a private villa, designed as a seamless extension of the living space. We used a combination of raw, tactile surfaces and curated greenery to create an urban oasis, a place where the home's rhythm continues to unfold under the open sky.

Our design for the TAPMI Centre in Manipal, a space for community and learning. Here, the stepped amphitheater under large bamboo parasols creates a porous hub for `sabhas` or gatherings, inspired by traditional Indian ghats and designed to be a vital social space for the city.

For Project 1374, we reimagined the role of green spaces in dense urban living. The home unfolds as a series of staggered volumes, creating pockets for lush, vertical gardens that weave through the structure, ensuring the landscape is the centerpiece, not an afterthought.

The Manipal School of Architecture & Planning, where the facade becomes a fluid, brick-clad gesture. This undulating form creates a welcoming, doorless entrance, tucking the main access below and allowing the steps to become a democratic space for student interaction.

In Project 58, the architecture becomes a living entity, almost disappearing behind a cascade of greenery. We used a combination of black stone, custom terracotta screens, and dense vertical planting to create a home that is truly porous and integrated with its landscape.

Our own studio in Ulsoor, Bengaluru, is a testament to our design ethos. The workspace opens directly onto a balcony overlooking a large raintree, blurring the line between indoors and outdoors and connecting our team with the natural warmth of Old Bangalore.
