Tabla Performance and Studio Composition Showcase
From the spiritual rhythm of Gurbani Kirtan to the energy of fusion sets, I bring my roohani taal (spiritual rhythm) to your event. Here is a look at my work across different stages and studio setups.
Here is a short tabla solo from a recent live show. This piece is in a 14-beat cycle, and I was just feeling the energy of the room. This is the kind of focused, energetic performance I love to bring to any stage.
The tabla is essential to Gurbani Kirtan. In this clip, I explain its importance in providing a rhythmic foundation and emotional depth to the Shabad. Understanding the 'why' behind the music is as important as the playing itself.
A beautiful moment from a live performance at a cultural sports event. Here, I am accompanying a talented flutist on the classic Bollywood song 'Hai Rama'. This kind of jugalbandi, or duet, is where two instruments have a conversation.
Taking a classic Bollywood song like 'Tere Naina' and adding my own tabla flavor is always a joy. This is a studio cover where I focused on capturing the soulful groove of the original while giving it a percussive twist.
Sometimes, a composition of your own, ek composition khud ki, just feels right. This is a self-composed Chakkardaar piece in Rupak Taal, a 7-beat cycle. Creating original work allows me to explore new rhythmic patterns.
I was truly humbled and proud to secure the 2nd position in the OCTAVE Solo Instrumental Competition at Maulana Azad Medical College. Moments like these are a blessing and motivate me to keep learning and improving.
About Featured
When you book me, we start with a conversation about the energy of your event. Whether you need a subtle tabla accompaniment for a devotional session or a sharp, complex rhythmic layer for a fusion track, I align my playing style to match your specific requirement and the acoustics of the venue.
My musical journey is rooted in 13 years of practice, starting from the traditional disciplines of Hindustani classical music. I approach every performance with the intention of creating a sound that fits the moment, rather than just playing a set rhythm.
Live Performance Adaptability
I perform at a wide range of venues, from the serene atmosphere of Gurudwaras for Gurbani Kirtan to high-energy stages for Bollywood and Sufi fusion. My setup is acoustic, relying on your venue's sound system, and I arrive early for a thorough soundcheck to ensure my Dayan and Bayan are tuned perfectly to your vocalist's scale.
Studio and Composition Work
If you are working on a song, I provide dry, high-quality WAV stems, delivering separate tracks for the Dayan (treble) and Bayan (bass). This gives your sound engineer full flexibility during the mix. I often compose original pieces, experimenting with time signatures like the 7-beat Rupak or 10-beat Jhaptaal to give your project a unique percussive identity. My service includes two rounds of revisions, as I want to ensure the rhythm sits exactly where you need it to be.
Booking and Logistics
I am based in Delhi NCR but travel across India for performances and recording projects. For fusion events with DJs or bands, I am comfortable playing with a click track or in-ear monitors if your production requires it. Please let me know the scope of your event so we can plan the right rhythmic support.
Jasmehar Singh
I am Jasmehar Singh, and for me, the tabla is zindagi. I have spent 13 years in the studio and on stage, moving between the devotional sounds of Gurudwaras and the experimental beats of fusion music. I am a student of the craft, always learning, and I aim to bring that same dedication to your project.
