Authentic Classical & Technical Tabla Sessions
From the discipline of Teentaal to intricate new rhythmic patterns, this is where raw percussion meets precision. Let’s bring authentic classical energy to your sound.
A solo performance of 'Teentaal', a fundamental 16 beat cycle in Hindustani classical music. This demonstrates my command over classical rhythms and my ability to improvise within a traditional framework.
A close up, high energy tabla cover of the song 'Toota Toota Ek Parinda'. This clip highlights the fast and intricate hand movements required to create a powerful and driving rhythm.
This is a tabla cover of a song by Shahid Ali Nusrat. It's a demonstration of how I interpret and accompany a vocal melody, adding rhythmic layers that complement the song's structure.
A moody and atmospheric tabla performance of 'Suniyan Suniyan'. The silhouette shot focuses on the sound and emotion, showing how I use rhythm to create a specific vibe for a track.
Here is a new koshish, an attempt at a new rhythmic pattern in the Kehrwa taal. This video shows me teaching and practicing with my students, creating complex polyrhythms with multiple tablas.
A top down view of a new tabla pickup and pattern being played by multiple artists. This shows my creative process in developing new rhythms and compositions.
Another creative session with multiple players trying out a new tabla pattern. This kind of collaborative practice is how I constantly develop fresh ideas for my session work.
A tabla jugalbandi, or friendly duel, between multiple players. This is a great way to see the speed, creativity, and technical skill that I can bring to a performance or recording.
A clip from a live performance at a program. The close up shot shows my intense focus while playing a complex tabla solo for a live audience.
About Tabla: Classical & Technical Skills
Whether we are tracking a standard Teentaal or a complex fusion break, I focus on the natural resonance of the tabla skin. You get dry, unmixed WAV stems that capture the raw energy of the performance, giving you total control in the mix to fit the percussion perfectly into your arrangement.
My musical journey is built on the foundation of Indian classical music. I believe that every rhythm, whether it is a simple 4-beat cycle or a complex polyrhythm, must serve the song. When you book a studio session with me, you are not just getting a recording. You are getting the benefit of my training and my constant hunt for new sounds.
Why my approach works for producers:
- Studio-Ready Sound: I bring my own setup to studios across Delhi/NCR. I understand the importance of clean, dry signals. I provide WAV stems that are ready for your sound engineer to mix without needing to clean up background noise.
- Classical Roots, Modern Utility: My technical knowledge of Teentaal, Kehrwa, and various Taals allows me to provide standard rhythms that lock in perfectly, or experimental patterns if you want your track to stand out from the crowd.
- Collaboration: Music is a team effort. I have spent years playing with my Papa ji and my band, Saaz-e-Mehfil. I know how to listen to the melody, wait for the right moment, and drop a filler that elevates the vocal instead of fighting it.
What I deliver:
I offer two main tiers of service. For simpler projects, I record the primary instrument (Tabla or Dholak) for up to 3 hours. If you are working on a commercial production that needs depth, I provide a Full Fusion Rhythm Arrangement. This involves layering Tabla, Dholak, and auxiliary percussion like the Darbuka to create a rich, textured soundscape. Every session includes one round of revisions because I want the rhythm to be exactly what you imagined.
Atul Rohtagi
I am a percussionist who lives for the rhythm. Music flows from my Papa ji, my guru, and I bring that legacy to every session—whether I am teaching at my academy or recording for your next big song. If you appreciate the sound of a well-tuned tabla, we will get along just fine.
