I bring the soul of the tabla and dholak to your bhajans, kirtans, and Gurbani. Whether it is a gentle shabad or an upbeat devotional track, my aim is to support the rhythm and keep the spirit of your music alive.

A tabla ensemble cover of the beautiful bhajan 'Saja Do Ghar Ko Gulshan Sa'. This shows how I can create a grand and uplifting rhythmic arrangement for devotional songs.

Here I am playing tabla for a Gurbani shabad, 'Vade Mere Sahiba'. This demonstrates my experience in providing the specific rhythmic accompaniment required for Sikh devotional music.

A performance of the Shyam bhajan 'Teen Baan Ke Dhari'. I am playing the khanjari, a type of hand drum, showing my ability to use different percussion instruments to suit the needs of a devotional track.

About Devotional Music (Bhajans & Gurbani)

I focus heavily on the lyrics when playing for devotional tracks. If it is a soft shabad or a meditative bhajan, I keep my tabla playing minimal and atmospheric. For faster, high-energy kirtans, I often switch to the dholak or khanjari to bring in that earthy, percussive pulse that keeps the energy flowing. My goal is always to provide a rhythmic foundation that supports your singer without ever overpowering their voice.

Devotional music requires a different kind of sensitivity compared to commercial tracks. It is not about showing off technical speed, but about supporting the prayer. When I am in the studio or performing live for a bhajan or kirtan, my job is to create a rhythmic foundation that allows the audience to connect deeply with the music.

My Approach to Devotional Percussion

  • Gentle Accompaniment: For tracks like Gurbani shabads or quiet bhajans, I prefer a soft, precise touch on the tabla. It creates a meditative feel that ensures the listener remains focused on the message.
  • High-Energy Kirtans: For upbeat bhajans, I bring in the dholak or khanjari. These instruments provide that traditional, folk-inspired pulse that invites everyone to clap and sing along.

Technical & Logistics

I am happy to work in your choice of studio across Delhi/NCR. I generally record in a way that gives you raw, dry WAV stems, ensuring your sound engineer has total control over the final mix. This is especially important for devotional tracks where balance is everything. If you have a specific song tempo or want a traditional style (like a specific taal), just let me know before we start recording. I treat every bhajan session as a new koshish (effort) to bring the right emotion to your project.

I am a fusion artist and a 'kalaakaar' who finds his greatest joy in the rhythm of the tabla. Music is my inheritance from my Papa ji, and when I play for devotional music, I pour that same respect into every beat.
