This is what a typical high-energy water workout looks like. Here, we are using aquatic dumbbells to perform overhead presses, a fantastic exercise for building shoulder and arm strength against the water's natural resistance.

I offer sessions at various times, including these night classes. This workout combines aquatic dumbbells and a pool noodle for a full-body conditioning session under the lights.

Using aquatic dumbbells, these members are strengthening their upper bodies. The water provides constant resistance, making every movement an effective part of this toning exercise.

A member performs a shoulder press with aquatic dumbbells. This is a great example of how we build functional strength in a supportive, buoyant environment.

My aqua aerobics classes are for everyone. Here, two members are performing bicep curls with water dumbbells, an effective way to build upper body strength.

About Aqua Aerobics & Strength Training

You do not need to know how to swim to get the most out of these sessions. We conduct all our strengthening and toning exercises in chest-deep water, so you can focus entirely on the resistance training using foam dumbbells and pool noodles. It is a completely low-impact way to build muscle and improve your cardiovascular health without putting unnecessary stress on your knees or back.

How Our Water Workouts Work

The pool provides natural resistance that is far more effective than training on land. Every movement you make—whether it is an arm curl or a leg lift—is met with resistance from the water, which helps tone muscles without the harsh impact of gravity.

We utilize equipment like foam dumbbells and pool noodles to target specific muscle groups. In a typical 45-to-60-minute session, we cycle through:

  • Upper Body Toning: Using aquatic dumbbells to perform presses and curls that build shoulder and arm strength.
  • Core Stability: Using pool noodles for balance, which forces your core to engage and keep you upright.
  • Lower Body Endurance: Performing leg kicks and movements against the water to strengthen the legs and glutes without joint pain.
