Mastering Newborn Posing & Prop Styling
Join my hands-on workshop in Bangalore to learn safe newborn posing, creative prop styling, and editing techniques that bring your images to life.
This is a final image from one of my recent workshops, shot by a student. You will learn how to create beautifully styled setups like this apple cart theme and leave with portfolio-ready images.
Learning to create advanced composite images, like this baby on a floral swing, can truly elevate your photography. I will guide you step-by-step through the shooting and editing process to achieve these stunning results.
Even simple props can be so effective. Here, a cozy bunny hat adds a touch of whimsy to this portrait of a sleeping twin, showing how accessories can enhance a newborn photo.
This little one is nestled amongst a collection of teddy bears. I will show you how to use props to create a narrative and add a sense of scale and sweetness to your newborn portraits.
Color theory is a key part of my workshop. In this setup, we used shades of blue in the wrap, flowers, and props to create a cohesive and calming portrait of this sweet baby boy.
The "bloom" setup is one of my most requested, and I will teach you how to create it. This overhead shot shows a baby wrapped snugly inside a large fabric flower for a delicate and artistic portrait.
Sometimes, the most powerful portraits are the simplest. I will teach you classic posing techniques, like this side-lying pose on a simple backdrop, that focus all the attention on the baby's peaceful features.
This short video reveals how we create the magical hanging hammock shot. You will learn how to safely support the baby in the prop to get the perfect angle for a beautiful composite image.
This is the final result of our hammock setup. The baby appears to be peacefully floating among flowers, a beautiful illusion we create using safe, hands-on techniques and a little editing magic.
This image demonstrates the use of digital backdrops to expand your creative options. I will show you how to shoot the baby in a prop and then seamlessly blend them into a pre-made scene like this floral chair setup.
About Mastering Posing & Prop Styling
In my workshop, we move past theory and get right into the how. I strictly limit each session to five photographers, ensuring you get actual time to handle, wrap, and pose real newborn models under my direct supervision. You will walk away with your own portfolio-ready images, not just notes on a page.
A Day of Real-World Learning
Photography is a craft best learned by doing. This is why my workshops are not about sitting in a classroom listening to a lecture. It is a full, nine-hour intensive day at my Whitefield studio where we cover the entire workflow—from the second a baby arrives to the final edited image.
Safety and Comfort First
My priority is always the baby. We start by discussing how to read a baby’s cues and how to pose them comfortably. Whether it is a simple side-lying pose or a complex prop setup, safety is the foundation of everything I teach. You will learn how to transition between poses smoothly without disrupting the baby's sleep.
Prop Styling and Composites
We don’t just take photos; we build scenes. I will show you how to use baskets, beds, and swings, and how to style them with textures, wraps, and florals to create a narrative. We also dedicate time to the technical side of things, specifically shooting for composites. You will learn how to safely secure a baby in a prop and then use Photoshop to create those dreamy, floating images that clients love.
Beyond the Camera
Editing is half the magic. I’ll walk you through my personal Photoshop workflow, including skin retouching and how to use AI tools to speed up your process without losing that authentic, soft look. We will also talk about the business side of things—pricing your work, managing client expectations, and finding your own voice in this competitive industry.
Swara Rane
Hi, I’m Swara. I started these workshops because I know how daunting those first newborn sessions can be. My goal is to help you build confidence, not just by showing you what to do, but by walking through it right alongside you in my studio.
