Mastering Newborn Editing and Composite Photography
The real magic happens after the shoot. Here is my workflow for creating safe, dreamy composite images and perfecting skin tones in Photoshop.
I will teach you the secrets to creating magical composite images. This video shows how we combine a shot of the baby with a separate shot of the setup to create a dreamy final portrait safely.
Subtle editing can make a huge difference. This before and after video shows how warming up the background tones enhances the overall mood of the image and complements the subjects' clothing.
This final image is a composite, where the baby was photographed separately from the styled nest. In the workshop, you will learn this essential technique for creating elaborate and artistic newborn portraits safely.
About Advanced Techniques: Editing & Composites
We skip the fluff and get straight into the messy, real-world editing fixes. You will learn the exact layer masking techniques I use to merge two separate shots into one safe composite image, so you never have to put a baby in a precarious position.
Editing is not just about making things look pretty. It is a critical part of the safety process. When we create a 'hanging' shot or place a baby in a prop, we are never actually putting the infant in danger. I will show you how to shoot two plates: one with the baby secured safely and one of the prop itself. In Photoshop, we merge these into one seamless final image.
What we cover in this session:
- Raw Processing: Getting the white balance and exposure right before you even open Photoshop.
- Skin Retouching: My method for cleaning up newborn skin tones while keeping that soft, natural texture that parents love.
- Composite Workflow: Layer masking, opacity control, and blending to ensure the shadows and lighting match between your two shots.
- AI Tools: Using new software to speed up repetitive tasks like background removal and frequency separation, so you spend less time at the computer and more time shooting.
This training is about finding your own rhythm. Whether you are using Lightroom, Photoshop, or new AI-based workflows, we will build a process that works for your studio. Let's make your newborn images shine!
