The Story Behind Suffuse Soaps
From a kitchen experiment in 2016 to my own Bangalore studio today, soap making has become more than just my work—it’s my alchemy. Here is the real story of how Suffuse Soaps came to be.
A proud moment. My awards and recognitions finally have their place on the top shelf in my new studio. It's a great reminder of how far I've come on this journey.
Meet Aruna the Soap Artist. A friend created this amazing custom action figure of me, complete with my apron, a swirl soap, a stick blender, and of course, my cats.
A little reintroduction for my new followers. I'm Aruna, and soap making transformed my life back in 2016. It started as a side hustle and has grown into my full time passion.
A recap of my eventful year. It was filled with awards, workshops, exhibitions, and so much soap making. I'm looking forward to what the next year brings.
A little bit about me. I'm Aruna, a clay crafter turned soap maker living in Bangalore. My business supports my family and a large number of rescue cats who share my home.
About Meet the Maker & My Journey
When you step into my Shanti Nagar studio, you won't find a sterile factory; you'll find bowls of oils, my rescue cats roaming the shelves, and whatever experiment I'm currently obsessed with—be it ghee-based bars or new 'Ghost Swirl' techniques. I started this in a steel bowl with a wild idea, and that same 'kitchen-first' mindset drives every batch I pour today.
From Steel Bowl to Studio
I didn't start with a business plan. I started with a steel bowl, a wild idea, and a kitchen that smelled like essential oils. Back in 2016, I was looking for a way to balance my routine, and soap making just washed over me. What began as a side hustle to support my obsessions organically grew into my full-time life by 2019.
The Science of 'Suffuse'
My philosophy is simple: pretty soaps might sell once, but great formulations keep you coming back. I treat soap making as a science. Whether I am adjusting lye concentrations, testing how goat milk reacts with different lye temperatures, or experimenting with local ingredients like elaneer and desi ghee, my goal is always the same—to create a product that feels like magic on your skin.
Life in Shanti Nagar
My studio is a reflection of my life. It is where I hold workshops for anyone from kids to pros, and it is also home to a large number of rescued cats. This business supports them, my family, and my passion. I have purposefully moved away from a constant rotation of exhibitions to focus on my online presence and studio visitors, which means I can dedicate more time to teaching and perfecting my craft.
Why I Share My Process
Teaching is one of the most rewarding parts of my journey. I do not believe in gatekeeping; I believe in sharing knowledge. If you look at my work, you will see the evolution—from my early experiments to the awards on my top shelf. I am always happy to talk through the 'why' behind a formula or explain the difference between a hot process and a cold process, so feel free to reach out and chat.
Suffuse
I’m Aruna, and I run Suffuse Soaps here in Bangalore. This studio is where I turn raw, earthy ingredients into skincare that actually works, all while supporting my family and a household full of rescued cats.
