The challenge here was not just the design, it was the timeline. For the Mia by Tanishq disco campaign, we had exactly 36 hours from sketch to final fit to ensure the gown moved perfectly while Zeenatji danced. That is the reality of commercial styling, it is less about the glamour you see in the frame and entirely about the industrial steamer, fabric tape, and last-minute fittings that happen right before the director shouts action.
Behind the Camera
When I style a legend like Zeenat Aman, the goal is never just to put an outfit on her. It is about capturing a specific energy. Whether we are shooting for Netflix or an HUL brand endorsement, I approach each look as a collaboration between her iconic history and modern fashion.
The Process
- Fabric and Movement: For the disco campaign, the fabric choice was critical. It had to be lightweight enough for dance sequences but heavy enough to hold the structure of the gown under studio lights. We tested sequins and pleats in real-time to ensure no glare issues.
- The Royals (Netflix): This project was about timeless grace. We mixed layers and textures to create a look that felt regal yet contemporary, working closely with the photographers to ensure every piece of jewelry popped without overwhelming the frame.
- Commercial Continuity: On long shoots, continuity is the biggest challenge. I maintain a strict log of every accessory and garment change, especially when shooting for multiple brands in one day. This is where my team of assistants becomes essential, managing everything from steaming to quick-change wardrobe resets.
I treat every garment as an asset. My studio in Santacruz West is where we do the prep, from sketching custom designs to sourcing pieces that fit the script perfectly.
