Hand-Built Ceramics and Functional Pottery
I make things slowly, with my hands, not a wheel. This collection shows the pieces that define my studio, from sculptural spiky bowls to narrative wall plates, all shaped with patience and Mumbai soil.
This large platter began as a fallen leaf I found on my travels. I was captivated by its grand scale and quiet presence, so I brought it back to my studio to translate its form into clay. It’s a piece that holds a memory, a perfect example of how I find inspiration in the world around me for my artisan ceramic home decor.
A set of three custom wall plates, each telling a part of a personal story. This commission celebrated a passion for music, acting, and the love for a dog named Scotch. Collaborating on such meaningful pieces is one of the most rewarding parts of my craft.
From my Kaleidoscope Collection, this lidded jar features a vibrant speckled glaze. I love working with pop colors to create functional ceramics that bring a splash of joy and energy into your home. Each piece is handbuilt and designed for everyday use.
I have a special love for making these spiky bowls. Some find them a bit extra, but I see them as quirky, eye-catching pieces of functional art. They are perfect for holding everything from your morning fruit to your favorite jewelry.
An example of my more playful and edgy work, this oval tray features a repeating skull pattern under a rich green glaze. It’s a statement piece of clay art, proving that handmade pottery can be both fun and a little bit punk.
There's a unique joy in sharing my craft with others. This video captures the fun and focus of a pottery workshop, where two friends turned a fun idea into handmade ceramics full of character and memories. No experience is ever needed, just a willingness to play.
This is what a potter's breakfast looks like. There's a special kind of satisfaction in not only making your meal but also having made every single vessel it's served in. It’s a reminder that art can and should be part of our daily rituals.
About Featured
Every piece here is built using pinching, coiling, or slab rolling. I never use a wheel, which means you will see my finger marks and slight asymmetries in every item. These aren't defects. They are markers of the time I spent working the clay by hand.
A Different Way to Make
When I work, I prefer to let the clay find its own shape. By avoiding the wheel, I keep the process slow and the results unpredictable. You will notice that my mugs, bowls, and trays often have a slightly wonky edge or a glaze that pools in unexpected ways. This is intentional. I want you to hold a cup and feel the human effort that went into forming it.
The Collection
This featured selection highlights the range of my current practice:
- Spiky and Tripod Bowls: These are sculptural pieces that function as tableware. They are quirky and bold, meant to be seen as much as they are used.
- Sgraffito Wall Plates: I spend three to five hours carving through the underglaze to create these illustrations. They are one-of-one pieces that turn a blank wall into a space for storytelling.
- Kaleidoscope Ware: Functional items like jars and plates that use bright, speckled glazes to bring a bit of energy into your home.
Practical Details
While my pottery looks and feels natural, it is built to last. I use high-fired stoneware clay and imported, food-safe Amaco glazes. Every piece I list here is safe for the microwave and the dishwasher. If you choose a commission, I will work with you to map your memories, lyrics, or personal patterns onto the clay. It usually takes three to five weeks to finish a custom project, allowing for the necessary slow drying and kiln firing time.
Studio Gariffiti
I am Garima. I make things slowly, using my hands to guide the clay rather than a wheel. My studio in Powai is where I find a bit of calm, and I hope these pieces bring that same quiet into your home.
