Distinct Zones and Moods in Retail Design
Retail spaces are not just about displays. We design boutiques as journeys, breaking each floor into unique worlds that guide your customer from quiet entrance to bold interaction.
This is Zone One, the quiet invitation into the world of Moire. We designed this space to feel warm and layered, with a custom fabric mural featuring an embossed bird, a sculptural armchair, and a bespoke rug that together set a thoughtful, personal tone.
A final look at Zone One, the soft landing at the entrance of the boutique. This video captures the interplay of the sculptural chair, the layered fabric art on the wall, and the view through the arches, all designed to make you feel welcome.
A detail of the custom fabric mural in Zone One. This composition of three circular panels includes an embossed bird, floral embroidery, and sheer fabric, all backlit to create a soft glow. It’s a piece of art that tells the brand's story through texture.
Every detail is considered, right down to the feet of the furniture. Here, the custom-printed fabric of the sculptural armchair meets a solid wood bun foot, resting on a plush, textured rug. This interplay of materials is central to our design approach.
Welcome to Zone Two, a space inspired by the softness and intricacy of a boudoir. Here, a custom mirror with an embroidered panel sits beside a striped chair and a unique wall rug that appears to spill onto the floor, creating a sense of movement.
A glimpse into the romantic and detailed world of Zone Two. A custom-designed chair in a rich red velvet sits in a corner defined by floral wallpaper and a unique, fabric-wrapped archway, creating an intimate and immersive atmosphere.
The beginning of Zone Two, where the mood shifts to something more delicate and romantic. This image shows the space after the wallpaper and paint were applied, with the clean, lit archway ready for the layers of bespoke furniture and decor.
This is Zone Three, where the mood becomes bold, expressive, and maximalist. It’s the heart of the studio, designed for conversation with its deep colors, rich materials like Udaipur green marble, and dramatic, custom-designed furniture.
A view of the client interaction table in Zone Three. The custom table is topped with green marble and surrounded by bold red chairs, set against a backdrop of textured wallpaper panels and heavy drapes, creating a rich, layered look.
The lighting in Zone Three was designed to be as dramatic as the decor. A custom fabric-wrapped chandelier hangs above the client table, complemented by modern track lighting and layered, floor-to-ceiling drapes that add a theatrical touch.
About Curated Zones, Distinct Moods
When we approach a retail project, we avoid one-size-fits-all layouts. Instead, we divide the store into distinct zones, each serving a specific emotional purpose. For the Moire project, this meant transitioning from a gentle, soft entrance to a bold, maximalist interaction area. Every shift in material—whether it is an arch wrapped in hand-embroidered fabric or a change from warm lighting to dramatic spots—is a deliberate decision to control how your customer moves and feels within your space.
Our design process for retail environments is driven by narrative. We believe a shop should tell your brand's story before a single product is picked up. By creating layered zones, we allow a brand to express different facets of its personality.
In our work on the Moire studio, for example, we built four unique zones.
Zone One acts as a soft landing. We used custom fabric murals and sculptural seating to set a calm, intimate tone. This is about making the visitor feel welcome.
Zone Two introduces the intricacy of your brand. Here, we focus on detailed woodwork, pleated fabrics, and custom mirrors. It is designed to feel like a boudoir, inviting customers to linger.
Zone Three is the bold heart of the studio. We switched to deep reds and Udaipur green marble. This area is built for conversation, negotiation, and decision-making. The lighting here is dramatic, and the furniture is heavy, signaling that this is where the serious work happens.
Zone Four brings in quiet luxury. With a palette of mauve, mustard, and midnight blue, we created a space that balances glamour with comfort.
We manage everything from the civil framework for those curved walls to the final stitch on the fabric arches. Our goal is to ensure the reality of the store matches the narrative intent, giving you a space that functions as an immersive destination rather than just a retail counter.
