Experiential Retail Design and Showroom Architecture
Retail spaces should do more than display products. We design showrooms that invite customers to experience your brand story, blending industrial elements with fluid, soft forms.
The core concept for the JOSMO showroom was to create a fluid, gallery-like experience. This wide view shows how the undulating ceiling fringe and curved floor plinths guide movement, creating distinct vignettes for furniture display without the use of traditional walls.
A curated lounge setting within the showroom demonstrates how different textures and forms can coexist harmoniously. The space features a curved blue sofa, sculptural shelving, and a dramatic ceiling installation, all working together to create an immersive and inspiring interior.
This vignette highlights the interplay of textures, from the soft, upholstered armchair to the rough-hewn wooden console and the intricate wall art. Each piece is placed on its own organic-shaped platform, elevating it from mere product to a piece of sculpture.
We designed these custom, multi-tiered shelving units to act as functional sculptures within the open-plan space. Their organic, flowing shelves provide a unique way to display smaller decor items and pottery, breaking up the vertical space and adding visual interest.
A closer look at the bespoke shelving reveals a textured, stone-like finish that contrasts with the smooth surfaces of the displayed objects. The undulating form of the supports adds a sense of movement and artistry to the functional display unit.
The reception desk is a statement piece, designed with a heavily textured concrete finish and balanced on a raw brick block. This juxtaposition of rough, industrial materials with the polished showroom floor exemplifies our approach of finding beauty in contrast.
We believe a retail space should tell the story of its brand, which is why we created this interactive material library wall. It allows customers to see and touch the various finishes and fabrics available, making the design process transparent and engaging.
Biophilic design is woven throughout the showroom, with carefully selected indoor plants adding life and a natural element to the space. Here, a collection of potted plants, including a fiddle-leaf fig and monstera, softens a corner next to a sculptural console table.
Art is integral to the space, not an afterthought. Vibrant, contemporary paintings are paired with a bold blue armchair on a custom concrete plinth, creating a striking focal point that blurs the line between a furniture store and an art gallery.
About Experiential Retail & Showroom Design
In our design for the JOSMO showroom in Worli, we chose to move away from rigid wall divisions. By utilizing undulating ceiling fringes and raised floor plinths, we created a gallery environment that guides customers naturally through the furniture displays. This layout allows individual pieces to stand out as art, turning a standard shopping trip into an exploration of form and texture.
For us, a retail interior serves as the bridge between a brand's ethos and the customer's physical experience. We prioritize spatial flow, ensuring that every corner of the store reveals something new. Our process relies on a balance of industrial materials and soft design elements.
Designing for Impact
We approach every showroom project by examining how visitors move through the space. In the Worli showroom, we combined rough, industrial materials like brick blocks and concrete with organic, sweeping shapes. This contrast keeps the eye engaged. We also integrate functional zones, such as material libraries, where customers can physically handle samples of finishes and fabrics. This transparency in design helps build trust and creates an interactive shopping environment.
Lighting and Materials
We believe lighting dictates the mood of a store. We rely on COB track lighting with high color rendering indices to ensure that fabrics, wood grains, and textures look true to life. Our material palette often includes:
- IPS Concrete and Terrazzo: Durable, high-traffic flooring that provides a neutral, grounding base.
- Custom Metalwork: We build display racks that act as sculptural elements rather than just storage, often featuring curved supports that mimic the store's architecture.
- Biophilic Elements: We incorporate live plants like Fiddle-leaf figs to soften the edges of the room and bring a natural, calming energy to the retail floor.
Whether you are designing a flagship clothing store or a furniture gallery, the goal is to make the space feel alive. We ensure your interior design supports your business operations while surprising customers with unexpected structural details.
