Witness the journey from raw, earthy clay to a piece you will use daily. In our hand-building sessions, we set aside the potter’s wheel to focus on the tactile art of shaping, carving, and crafting functional objects by hand.

The final reveal. Sanjana is delighted with her glazed ceramic bowls from the beginner’s workshop. It's always the best moment when students see their finished, functional pottery.

This adorable ducky will soon be floating in a beverage. A whimsical, hand-built stoneware mug made by a student in a beginners’ weekend pottery workshop.

The making of Anju’s beautiful ocean blue mug. This video shows the process of attaching the handle and carving the final texture before it goes into the kiln.

A beautiful example of student work. This is Isobel’s scalloped, two-handled mug, now glazed and ready to be used. The simple, elegant form is just lovely.

The making of Shrishti’s heart bowl. From a simple pinch pot to a bowl adorned with tiny hearts, this piece was made with so much care and attention.

About From Clay to Ceramic: Student Creations

The magic doesn't end when the workshop does. Because we use traditional hand-building techniques and slow-fire our pieces, your mug or bowl needs time to dry, get glazed, and survive two rounds in the kiln. It takes about 3 to 5 weeks for your creation to become food-safe, microwave-safe, and ready for your morning coffee.

When you join a session here, you are not just making a shape; you are learning how to work with stoneware clay. We skip the potter's wheel entirely to focus on hand-building techniques like pinching, coiling, and slab rolling. This approach feels more intimate and accessible, especially for beginners who have not worked with clay before.

You start with a raw lump of earth, turning it into something functional like a mug, a bowl, or a trinket dish. After the workshop, your piece goes through a rigorous journey in our Powai studio: drying, bisque firing, hand-glazing with our food-safe finishes, and a final high-temperature glaze firing. This process is why it takes 3 to 5 weeks to get your finished work.

There is a specific kind of satisfaction in seeing finger marks and slight irregularities in the finished glaze. It tells the story of how that object was made. Whether you are looking for a unique date idea in Mumbai or a creative weekend workshop to decompress, these sessions offer a rare chance to put your phone down and connect with the material.

I'm Garima. I believe that if you can hold a pinch of clay, you can make something beautiful. My workshops are less about technical perfection and more about the quiet, tactile joy of making something with your own two hands.
