About Hand-Building: Create Anything You Imagine
You do not need to be an artist to start here. My workshops focus on the fundamental joy of working with your hands. Whether you are pinching a simple bowl or coiling a vase, the goal is to enjoy the process and leave with a piece that is truly yours. We keep things relaxed, so do not worry if it is your first time; I will be right there to guide your hands.
How Hand-Building Works
Hand-building is the most ancient and meditative way to work with clay. Instead of using a wheel, we use our fingers, palms, and simple tools to shape the clay directly. It is tactile, messy, and incredibly satisfying.
In my sessions, we cover the three core foundations of hand-building:
- Pinch Pottery: We start by pinching balls of clay to create organic, thumb-formed vessels like bowls or small cups. This is the best way to get a feel for the material.
- Coiling: We roll long 'snakes' of clay and stack them to build height, perfect for vases or larger jars. It allows you to control the shape and volume as you build.
- Slab Building: We roll out flat sheets of clay, much like dough, to cut and join into geometric shapes, mugs, or even photo frames. This is great for more structured, modern designs.
Why the Studio Vibe Matters
Located in Ghatkopar West, my studio is set up on a balcony with a view of greenery and the train tracks. It is meant to be a break from the city noise. Whether you are coming in for a solo session to find some calm or a 'claydate' with a friend, the space is designed to help you slow down. We have music, tea, and zero judgment.
What Happens After the Workshop?
Clay needs patience. Once you finish your piece, it stays with me for the drying process. I handle the trimming, bisque firing (the first bake), glazing, and the final high-temp firing to make your piece food-safe. You can expect your finished ceramic masterpiece to be ready for collection in about 2 to 3 weeks. It is worth the wait to have something you made yourself that lasts forever.
Studio Hands inClay
I am Aparnaa, and I believe clay is the best therapy. I set up this balcony studio in Ghatkopar to give you a space where you can actually switch off, listen to some music, and just make things with your hands. It is not about perfect pots—it is about the memories you build while shaping the clay.
