About Imaginative Spaces for Play & Reading
We move away from plastic-heavy environments, opting instead for natural materials like Baltic Birch Plywood for our custom reading pods and modular desks. These spaces are built with the child’s perspective at eye level, ensuring that every library nook or soft-gym zone feels like a safe, inviting sanctuary where a child can actually get lost in their book.
At Studio Ruh, we believe that the design of a space directly influences how a child learns. It is not just about placing furniture, but about understanding the soul of the room. When we design for education, we focus on modularity and tactile experiences.
Why Materials Matter
We avoid cold, sterile surfaces. Instead, we use high-quality birch ply and acoustic vinyl flooring that cushions movement and reduces noise. This creates a calm, sensory-friendly environment that helps kids focus. Our furniture is sized specifically for the age group, making sure students can reach their own books and materials comfortably.
Designing for Movement and Quiet
- Library Pods: Our custom-designed reading pods act as quiet, semi-enclosed nooks. They provide a sense of privacy where a child can retreat for a moment of calm.
- Soft-Gym Areas: We build dynamic, undulating landscapes for physical activity. These areas use specialized safety flooring to ensure play remains safe while allowing for the energy of a growing child.
- Functional Decor: Instead of posters that fade into the background, we use wall puzzles, murals, and interactive elements. These turn walls into learning tools that are woven into the fabric of the room.
Everything we do is guided by our process of chai-fuelled brainstorms and late-night sketches. We don't believe in generic school design. We prefer a collaborative approach where we understand your school's ethos first and then build a space that truly reflects it.
