Bioclimatic Architectural Design
Design Strategy
- Site Analysis: Detailed plotting of sun-path and wind directions to optimize passive cooling.
- Concept Development: Iterative floor plans focusing on public-private zoning and indoor-outdoor connectivity.
- 3D Visualization: Renders displaying material textures like exposed brick and light-shadow interplay.
Technical Documentation
- Structural Drawings: Specialized engineering for load-bearing Compressed Stabilized Earth Blocks (CSEB) or stone masonry.
- MEP Planning: Integrated layouts for rainwater harvesting, solar positioning, and exposed electrical conduits.
- Green Details: Specifications for earth-sheltered basements, skylights, and natural ventilation shafts.
Sourcing Consultancy
- Material Selection: Identification of local quarries for stone and soil testing for earth blocks.
- Vendor Connection: Referrals to specialized artisans for custom steel fabrication and glass work.
Turnkey Sustainable Construction
Civil Structure
- Excavation & Insulation: Deep earth work for basements involving heavy-duty waterproofing and thermal layers.
- Wall Fabrication: On-site manufacturing of CSEB using soil and machinery or Random Rubble Masonry with Delhi Quartzite.
- Roofing: Reinforced concrete or filler slabs using terracotta pots to minimize heat gain.
Finishes & Interiors
- Flooring: Installation of natural stone like Kota and Kadappa or cast-in-situ Terrazzo.
- Custom Fenestration: Fabrication of steel or upcycled wood frames with double-glazed units for insulation.
- Metal Work: Installation of custom steel bridges, spiral staircases, and industrial-style railings.
Green Infrastructure
- Water Management: Setup of underground rainwater harvesting tanks and greywater recycling systems.
- Passive Cooling: Construction of wind catchers and skylights with manually controllable vents.
- Landscape Integration: Development of verandah paving and soil retention systems to merge structure with nature.
Site Supervision Retainer
Site Monitoring
- Scheduled Visits: 4 to 6 monthly visits by the project team to verify progress against technical drawings.
- Quality Control: Inspection of mud block curing, mortar mix ratios for stone walls, and exposed concrete finishes.
Project Management
- Vendor Coordination: Management of solar installers, glass fabricators, and landscape teams.
- On-Site Decisions: Immediate resolution of design modifications based on site realities and constraints.
- Bill Verification: Audit of contractor measurements to prevent overcharging for material wastage.
About Sustainable Residential Architecture
What Drives My Work
I see homes as “people’s music” - every space should hum with the stories and dreams of those living in it. My job? Listen, really listen, to what you want, and then help shape a home that fits your life and the land it’s on. I’m big on creating joy, not just buildings.
Three Pillars I Stand By
- Looks matter, but so does honesty. I use natural materials that actually feel like what they are.
- Local is best. Sourcing materials and hiring craftspeople from around here keeps costs practical and supports local hands.
- Sustainability isn’t a buzzword for me. It shows up in every part of the process - from the first sketch to the last brick.
How I Build
I avoid heavy machinery as much as possible and lean into hand-made, “desi” (local) ways of building. My go-to’s:
- Compressed stabilised earth blocks (can make these from your own soil - less transport, less pollution)
- Delhi quartzite stone, local bricks, and a mix of wood, metal, glass for balance
- Always working to keep a low carbon construction method
Nature Is the Real Designer
Homes should work with the weather, not fight it. I use bioclimatic home design - good airflow, lots of sunlight, earth-sheltered rooms for coolness, and big verandahs that connect inside and out.
The Process
Building a home isn’t a straight line. Sometimes things change, and that’s okay. There are mistakes, but they’re part of getting to something real and personal.

My Story
Started Space Ace way back in '91. Geometry, physics, architecture - all tangled up in my head. But I’m a people person, so it’s always been about the client, the land, and the budget. My own home? That’s my pride - built it with mud, stone, glass, wood, you name it. Bioclimatic house, straight from the site’s soil. Shibani, my wife, let me go wild with ideas. For me, architecture is like music, just frozen.
My Work
Our Services - We do institutional and residential architecture, green homes, airports, townships, convention centres, museums - all with a sustainable lens.
Green & Sustainable Focus - We use local materials like compressed stabilized earth blocks, keeping buildings comfy and budgets sane.
Engineering Meets Art - Big projects, tricky sites - like Pakyong Airport’s runway up in the mountains. We balance engineering and nature.
Design Process - No fixed style. We listen first, then shape the project around you and the site. Collaboration is key.
