About Sitar Classes & Workshops
A common hurdle for many students is finding the right 'vazan' or weight in their right-hand strokes. In our sessions, we move beyond just reading notes, focusing on the mechanics of your hand placement to ensure every stroke carries depth and resonance. This is not about playing faster, but playing with the correct soul and tension that defines the sitar's unique sound.
The Path of Sadhana
I believe that music is a form of discipline, or sadhana. It is not about reaching perfection overnight but showing up consistently. My classes at The Pink Lotus Academia in Greater Kailash 2 are built on this philosophy. Whether you join me for private 1-on-1 sessions or our small group workshops, we treat the sitar not just as an instrument, but as a tool for focus, calm, and self-discovery.
Our Approach to Learning
We start with the fundamentals that are often overlooked. We cover:
- Posture & Mechanics: How to hold the instrument, fret positioning, and left-hand agility.
- Right Hand Precision: Developing the 'vazan' required for clean, expressive strokes.
- Musical Foundations: Learning Alankars, Gayaki Ang (vocal style), and Tantrakari techniques.
- Raga Improvisation: Understanding the logic behind Alaap, Jod, and Jhala.
Classroom Formats
- Private Training: Customized sessions for focused development, ideal for students preparing for grading or wanting to fix specific technical gaps.
- Small Group Classes: Weekend sessions (Saturday/Sunday) limited to 3-6 students, fostering a peer-learning environment where you can practice alongside others.
- Hybrid Learning: We bridge the gap between geography and music. My studio is fully equipped for hybrid sessions, allowing you to join via real-time Zoom integration if you cannot make it to the studio in GK II.
