Sitar Student Journeys and Learning Outcomes
See how our students find their rhythm. From mastering basic hand positions to exploring raga foundations, our community at The Pink Lotus Academia is where practice meets progress.
It brings me immense joy to hear directly from my students. In this video, they share their personal experiences learning the sitar with me, discussing their progress, the focus on fundamentals, and the supportive community we are building together at the academia.
About Student Experiences
The most common realization my students share is about the 'hidden' mistakes they were making before joining. Whether it is a subtle grip issue or an inefficient stroke, catching these small habits early changes the entire learning trajectory. We do not just play; we deconstruct the mechanics of the sitar together so that progress feels natural and sustainable.
Building a Musical Foundation
At The Pink Lotus Academia, my approach to teaching is not about rushing through ragas. It is about building a genuine connection with the instrument. Students often arrive with self-taught habits that hold them back, such as incorrect finger placement or a lack of weight—vazan—in their strokes. In our weekly sessions, we slow down to address these specific technical bottlenecks.
More Than Just Lessons
It is not just about 1-on-1 instruction. We host small group sessions where peer jamming is encouraged. This creates a supportive environment where you learn as much from listening to your classmates as you do from our direct exercises. It is about being part of a classical music community in Delhi.
Learning Formats
Whether you are a complete beginner or looking to advance to complex Tantrakari techniques, the focus remains the same: basics first. We use technology like the Tanpura and Tabla for accompaniment, ensuring your practice at home remains accurate to the classical form.
If you are in Delhi, our basement studio in GK II is designed for natural acoustics. If you are remote, our hybrid setup ensures you do not miss out on the nuance of my hand corrections. It is a space for discipline, patience, and the joy of creating music.
