Hands-on Indian Classical Instrument Discovery for Kids
Let your children touch, play, and explore real classical instruments like the Sitar and Tabla. We bring the magic of Shastriya Sangeet directly to your space for an afternoon of discovery and wonder.
A group of children intently focused on learning the intricacies of a musical instrument from a patient artist. This is the core of our Wonderful Vaadya Project: close, hands-on interaction.
More beautiful moments from our Musical Book Tour, which is part of the Wonderful Vaadya Project. Watch as children and adults alike get lost in the world of Indian classical instruments.
A grandmother helps her grandson feel the rhythm of the tabla. Our Wonderful Vaadya Project sessions are designed to be inclusive for the entire family, fostering beautiful intergenerational connections.
"I have never seen a Sitar before, only in pictures." Hearing this from a young participant makes our work so rewarding. Our goal is to turn pictures into real, tangible experiences.
An artist reflects on how invested and unbiased the children were during a session. Our interactive format breaks down barriers and proves that kids are naturally drawn to the beauty of classical music.
About this collection
We do not believe in keeping instruments behind glass. In our 90-minute Wonderful Vaadya Project sessions, children get to safely hold and play real instruments like the Sitar, Veena, and Tabla under the guidance of our senior instrumentalists. We bring the entire setup to your location—floor mats for the traditional Baithak, the instruments, and two expert facilitators—so your only job is to watch the wonder on your child's face.
Bridging the Gap Between Kids and Classical Music
We design these workshops to break the common misconception that Indian classical music is too complex or serious for young children. When kids can physically touch the instruments, they stop being observers and become participants.
What You Can Expect
We limit each session to 20 children, ensuring every participant gets quality time with the instruments. The session begins with a 20-minute mini-concert where our professional artists demonstrate the capabilities of the Sitar or Veena. Following this, we move into the supervised 'petting zoo' phase. Whether it is strumming the strings of a Sitar or tapping out a rhythm on the Tabla, children are encouraged to explore at their own pace.
Logistics and Setup
We understand that hosting an event involves many moving parts, so we handle all the heavy lifting. Our team arrives early to set up a comfortable floor-seating arrangement, creating a warm, inviting space. Safety is our priority, so we have dedicated supervision to ensure delicate instruments are handled correctly by the little ones.
Why Choose This Experience
Beyond the fun, we focus on introducing basic concepts like Laya (rhythm) and Swaras (notes) through games rather than lectures. We also provide digital audio links after the session so the learning can continue at home. We are based in Bengaluru and travel to private homes, schools, community centers, and libraries across the city to share this musical parivar with you.
ShrotaHouse
I’m Madhumita, and my mission with ShrotaHouse is to make our Shastriya Sangeet feel like home for the next generation. We don't believe in boring lectures; we believe in the magic that happens when a child feels the rhythm of a Tabla or hears the strings of a Veena for the first time. We’re building a musical parivar where families learn, laugh, and grow together.
