The Art of Sketching: Landscapes, Cityscapes & Objects
I teach the fundamentals of observation, learning to see lines, shapes, and depth in the world around you. Whether it is an auto-rickshaw or a village lane, I show you how to break complex scenes down into manageable pencil strokes.
A video demonstration of a pencil cityscape, showing how to build a complex street scene from simple shapes to a detailed sketch.
The final pencil cityscape sketch, capturing a busy street with buildings, vehicles, and figures.
A pencil landscape demonstration, focusing on creating depth and texture in a street scene with complex wiring overhead.
An online class demonstration of a pencil landscape, showing how to render foliage and architectural textures in a village lane.
A pencil sketch of a rural house with a palm tree, focusing on the contrast between natural and man-made textures.
A pencil landscape of a village road, demonstrating perspective and shading techniques taught in my online course.
A soft charcoal or pencil sketch of a path through a wooded area, focusing on atmosphere and light.
About this collection
I do not just teach you how to draw, I show you how to observe. In my classes, we spend time breaking down complex city scenes into simple shapes, whether you are struggling with perspective lines on a building or shading texture on an old tree. You will get direct feedback on your sketches, not just generic encouragement, because the only way to improve is to identify exactly where your lines are going wrong.
When I teach sketching, I focus on the logic behind every line. Many students start with a heavy hand, hoping that more graphite equals more detail. I help you unlearn that. We start with the basics, understanding how light falls on objects and how to create depth on a 2D surface. Whether you are joining my online landscape course or sitting for an in-person workshop, my method remains the same. I demonstrate live, so you can see my hand movement, pressure, and process in real-time. We cover perspective drawing for architectural scenes, texture rendering for natural landscapes, and proportion studies for objects like vehicles and household items.
What we cover in our sessions:
- Perspective Rules: Making buildings and roads look three-dimensional rather than flat.
- Light and Shadow: Using pencils to create volume instead of just outlining.
- Texture and Detail: How to draw foliage, brickwork, or metal surfaces without overworking the paper.
- Composition: Framing your subject so the viewer's eye follows the scene naturally.
My classes are not for people looking for shortcuts. They are for serious hobbyists and students who want to build a solid foundation. If you are struggling with sketching urban scenes, vehicles, or nature, bring your sketchbook and let us work on it together.
