Authentic Homemade South Indian Snacks and Podis
From crispy murukku to traditional spice powders, discover the comfort of recipes passed down through generations in my kitchen.
This is how I make my murukku, with a recipe passed down through generations. Each spiral is shaped by hand and fried with care, ensuring you get that perfect, authentic crunch every single time. It’s a symphony of taste and texture, made with love.
There is nothing quite like that moment with your evening coffee or tea, paired with the perfect homemade snack. Here is a glimpse of the variety I offer, from crunchy murukkus and savoury mixtures to sweet peanut chikki, all ready to make your break a little more special.
My Peanut Garlic Podi is a family secret and a customer favourite. I roast the peanuts and spices myself to create this wonderfully aromatic and flavourful powder. It's the perfect accompaniment for idli, dosa, or even just mixed with hot rice and a spoonful of ghee.
This is my Kothmiri Thokku, a versatile coriander chutney that is spicy, tangy, and a little sweet. I make it with fresh coriander and my own blend of spices. You can spread it on a roti, mix it with rice, or use it as a dip for my crisp murukkus.
This is comfort in a bowl. My Pappullu Podi, made from fried Bengal gram and spices, served the traditional way with hot steamed rice and a spoonful of golden ghee. It’s a simple, wholesome meal that will remind you of home.
Here is a beautiful snack board I put together, perfect for sharing with family and friends. It features a variety of my homemade snacks like different types of murukku, ribbon pakoda, and roasted peanuts, served alongside my tangy Kothmiri Thokku for dipping.
It brings me so much joy to see my homemade products on the shelves of a store. This shows my podis and snacks neatly arranged at a Food Hall outlet, making it easier for you to pick up your favourites whenever you like.
About Featured
Every batch of my podi is stone-ground in small quantities to retain the coarse texture and raw aroma that factory-made versions simply miss. When you pair this with hot steamed rice and a teaspoon of fresh ghee, you get the exact flavor profile I grew up eating in my mother's kitchen.
You might wonder why my snacks taste different from the mass-produced packets you find at the grocery store. The difference lies in the process. My kitchen operates on the simple rule of no shortcuts. When I make my Gunpowder (Molagai Podi) or Pappullu Podi, I source Guntur chillies and premium dals myself, then roast and grind them in small batches. This method ensures that the natural oils from the spices stay intact, giving you that rich, aromatic experience that store-bought powders lack.
Preservatives are a big no in my house. You will not find any artificial colours, MSG, or chemical agents in my jars. Because I use only fresh ingredients, my wet chutneys like Kothmiri Thokku and Allam Pachadi rely on traditional oil-preservation methods.
Usage tips:
- For the Podis: Don't just save them for idlis or dosas. Mix a spoonful of Peanut Garlic Podi with a little hot oil or melted ghee and use it as a spicy spread for your morning toast or roti.
- For the Thokkus: These are essentially concentrated flavour bombs. A little goes a long way. Use them as a dip for murukku when you have guests over or swirl a teaspoon into your daily rice bowl for an instant flavour lift.
Whether you are ordering for your own chai-time ritual or putting together a gift hamper, every pack that leaves my kitchen is prepared with the same intention: to share a little warmth from my home to yours.
