My Take on Institutional Spaces
Designing for institutions is way more than putting up walls and picking colors. I treat every project like a living, breathing community - whether it's a school, hostel, or a massive campus. For me, it’s about shaping places that support people, spark connections, and feel alive.
How I Work
Trust is huge. I won’t sugarcoat - big spaces are complicated. You need someone who handles every little detail and makes the whole thing feel seamless. My team and I get deep into the nitty-gritty of scale, lighting, and function. We like tackling the tough stuff - that’s where real creativity happens.
Real Projects, Real Impact
- Educational space design is close to my heart. Creating a 200,000 sq ft boarding school during the pandemic pushed us to rethink what kids need. We made science labs with sleek black counters, bright yellow cabinets, and built green zones where students don’t just study, they live.
- Hostel common area design? Got you. For a girls' hostel in Mumbai, we went all out - pinks, yellows, bold wall art shouting "UNSTOPPABLE." Every corner is about energy and dreams.
Common Spaces That Matter
I’m obsessed with how people interact. Lobbies, gyms, cafes, rec rooms, and even the admin offices - each spot gets full attention so it brings people together and lets them thrive.

My Story
Hey, I’m Sonal. SBID is my baby, born outta pure love for design and wanting to shake things up in Mumbai. Been at it for 25 years, sketching, singing, surviving. Lost my dad this year, so life hit hard, but work is where I heal. Christmas is my jam, family glues me together. I barely get to do my own home, but making spaces that feel like stories – that’s my real therapy.
