This video gives you a glimpse into one of our proudest achievements: a 200,000 sq ft boarding school campus we designed entirely during the pandemic. We created everything from modern classrooms and fully-equipped science labs to dynamic spaces for music and robotics, proving that great design can create a thriving educational community even under the toughest circumstances.
Here’s a look at a girls' hostel in Juhu, Mumbai, where we designed 60,000 sq ft of common areas. The goal was to create an energetic, safe, and inspiring environment for young women. We used bold colors and motivational graphics like the 'UNSTOPPABLE' wall to design the reception, lobbies, cafe, and gym, making every corner a place to connect and dream.
Lighting is one of my favorite tools for storytelling in a space. This clip shows how we use layered, intelligent lighting in a lounge area. It’s not just about making a room bright; it’s about creating a specific mood, highlighting architectural details, and making a large space feel intimate and welcoming.
Every project, big or small, starts right here with a sketch. This is the most crucial and personal part of my process, where I translate the client's vision and the community's needs into the first tangible form. It’s where the chaos of ideas begins to find its calm, clear direction.
This is the core of my design philosophy. Before we even think about materials or floor plans, we start with empathy. My job is to understand the people who will live, work, or learn in a space, ensuring the final design truly serves their needs and enhances their experience.
About Featured
When designing for high-traffic institutions, the beauty is in the durability. We use materials like acid-resistant resin for lab counters and high-traffic acoustic vinyl flooring because a space that looks great but doesn't last is not a success. My team and I plan every square foot to balance heavy-duty utility with the warmth of a home, ensuring these large areas feel personal rather than cold or clinical.
Large-scale projects are complicated, and that is where I love to dive in. Whether it is a 200,000 sq ft boarding school or a sprawling student hostel, the goal remains the same: creating an environment where people feel supported and inspired.
The Institutional Approach
I do not believe in 'institutional' meaning cold or sterile. Design is about empathy. When we took on a 200,000 sq ft boarding school project during the pandemic, we did not just focus on the layout of the science labs or classrooms; we focused on the student experience. We used bright yellow cabinets and green zones to turn study areas into living, breathing communities.
Function Meets Design
High-traffic areas need smart planning. For hostels, I focus on privacy and storage. We integrate custom bunk beds with hydraulic storage and lockable wardrobes, using BWP-grade plywood so they survive years of student life. In cafeterias and lobbies, we shift to premium finishes like Italian marble or acoustic fabric panels to handle noise and footfall while keeping the look sharp.
My Design Process
- Scale and Light: I assess how light moves through large atriums and classrooms before placing a single wall.
- Material Selection: From high-traffic vitrified flooring to anti-microbial lab surfaces, every material choice is made with maintenance in mind.
- Community Focus: Spaces are designed to encourage interaction. Lobbies, gyms, and cafes are not just transition zones; they are where connections happen.
