Kathak is a conversation between the dancer and the rhythm. At Sangeet Bharati, we preserve this classical art form with traditional rigor, helping you find your grace, technique, and expression.

The `ghungroos` are essential to Kathak, and we begin our training with an introduction to `taal` (rhythm). This image symbolizes the first step into the world of rhythmic footwork.

Admissions are open for our Kathak batches. This graphic highlights the core elements of our training: learning from professional artists and gaining performance experience.

About The Art of Kathak

Our training in Mandi House is built on the essential synergy between the dancer and the musician. Unlike many modern studios, we integrate live Tabla and Harmonium accompaniment into our sessions, which allows you to intuitively understand the interplay of taal (rhythm) and laya (tempo) while you master complex tatkaar (footwork) and abhinaya (expression).

The Gurukul Approach to Kathak

At Sangeet Bharati, we maintain a traditional, structured environment designed for serious learners. Our curriculum is divided into quarterly cycles, ensuring consistent progress rather than fragmented learning. Each quarter consists of approximately 25 sessions, providing ample time to internalize the nuances of the dance form.

What You Will Learn

Our classes focus on the technical and emotional pillars of Kathak:

  • Technical Precision: We dedicate significant time to tatkaar (footwork) and chakkars (spins), ensuring your posture and balance are grounded in classical technique.
  • Expressive Storytelling: Through abhinaya, we help students articulate stories, emotions, and themes, which is the heart of Kathak performance.
  • Theory and Rhythm: You will gain a deep understanding of taal and laya, enabling you to perform with confidence and clarity.

Performance and Professionalism

We believe the stage—or rangmanch—is where a student truly matures. Students are prepared for annual shows like 'Sarvaang' and 'Taranga' to showcase their technical prowess. Our environment is serious yet nurturing, led by professional artists and empanelled Gurus.

Practical Details

Classes are held twice a week, catering to both beginners and those with prior training. Please note that we follow a quarterly payment policy to maintain the stability of our batches.
