A demonstration of 'tatkar' or intricate footwork, which is the foundation of Kathak. In my classes, I focus on building a strong base in rhythm and form, allowing students to develop precision and grace.
Our Kathak classes are a blend of individual attention and group synergy. Here, students practice their hand movements (hastas) and expressions, learning to tell stories through dance.

About Kathak Sadhana: Classical Dance
We keep our Kathak batches intimate so every student gets personal guidance on their tatkar (footwork) and hastas (hand gestures). Classes happen every Thursday and Saturday, following a formal curriculum aligned with Prayag Sangeet Samiti. Whether you are aiming for a certification or just want to learn the bols and laya correctly, you get real-time feedback on your form to ensure your spins and posture are precise.
Traditional Kathak Learning
At Satyug Darshan Sangeet Kala Kendra, we treat Kathak as a meditative journey. Our approach integrates physical discipline with the soul of the music. You will not just learn the movements, but also understand the padhant (recitation) and the rhythm cycles that form the backbone of this classical dance.
The Curriculum
We offer a structured path that caters to both hobbyists and those looking for formal recognition:
- Diploma Tracks: For students interested in formal certification, our curriculum is affiliated with Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Prayagraj. This track covers the theoretical and practical aspects required for diploma and degree exams.
- Foundation & Technique: New students begin by strengthening their core, focusing on proper chakkars (spins), hastas (hand gestures), and abhinaya (expressions).
- Performance: Dance is meant to be shared. We provide regular opportunities for students to showcase their skills, from classroom demonstrations to stage performances during our annual Rising Stars show and Janmashtami celebrations.
