My Personal Yoga Practice and Journey
Real practice is messy, and that is exactly how I like it. Here is a look at my own journey, my travels, and the rituals that keep me grounded on and off the mat.
Paddling on the quiet waters of Kochi, I'm reminded that peace isn't something we find, but something we remember. Yoga has always been my path back to that remembrance, back to the stillness within.
Caught in the act of being playful during practice. My friend and I were about to attempt a partner pose, launching a Kakasana on top of her Upavistha Konasana. Yoga should always have room for fun.
Here's the moment I was getting ready to launch into a crow pose on my friend's back. We have a penchant for the bizarre and love to challenge ourselves with creative partner poses.
Coming back to the mat after a break can be hard. As a frequent traveler, I've learned to approach it with curiosity, not judgment. It's a process of rediscovery, not just recovery.
For 20 years, yoga has been my passion. It keeps me evolving. During a visit to Sukhmani Yoga, I was inspired by their founder, Sunaina, and had to try one of the moves she shared, with my own little twist.
A visit back to where it all started. Returning to Satyananda Yoga Vidyalaya in Bhubaneshwar, where my journey began, feels surreal. The energy of this place still holds the lessons that transformed my life.
On a trip to Cuttack, I discovered this beautiful wellness space, Aahar by Yogakaar. It's a vegetarian restaurant with a serene yoga studio. I couldn't resist a quick practice in this peaceful sanctuary.
A quick video tour of the wonderful Aahar by Yogakaar in Cuttack. It's a true hidden gem for anyone interested in wellness, yoga, and mindful eating.
Exploring the beautiful and well-equipped yoga studio at Aahar by Yogakaar. It's always a joy to find spaces dedicated to practice while traveling.
A moment of practice at the serene Aahar by Yogakaar studio. Even on a road trip, I find moments to roll out my mat and connect with my body.
About My Personal Practice & Journey
I have spent two decades refining my practice, moving from the quiet halls of Satyananda Yoga Vidyalaya to the high-energy fitness floors of Kochi studios. My personal journey is not about achieving the perfect pose for a photo; it is about building a rhythm that actually fits into a busy life. If you are curious about how I integrate traditional yoga with functional strength training to keep my body mobile and resilient at 49, let's talk about building your own sustainable wellness rhythm.
My relationship with yoga has evolved immensely over the last 20 years. When I started, I was looking for discipline and structure. Today, I look for connection and grace.
My practice is a blend of what I learned in the ashram and what I have discovered through my own movement, travel, and coaching. Whether I am paddling in the backwaters of Kochi or working through an inversion in a studio, my focus remains the same: listening to what my body needs rather than forcing it to conform to a standard.
Why I Blend Yoga and Strength
People often see these as two different worlds. I see them as one. Yoga gives me the awareness and flexibility to move without pain, while functional strength training gives me the power to live a long, active life. This approach is central to how I teach in Kochi and online. We do not just stretch; we build a foundation that protects your joints and bones as you age.
Consistency Over Perfection
If you have ever felt guilty for missing a session or failing to 'keep up', know that I have been there too. Some days I flow, some days I flop. That is part of the process. I believe that sustainable wellness does not depend on hype or the latest fitness trend. It depends on showing up, even when you do not feel like it.
If you are looking for a coach who understands that real life happens, and who will help you build a practice that honors your body rather than punishes it, I would love to hear from you. We can start by finding a routine that actually sticks.
