Practicing Together: Building Our Yoga Community

Yoga is a personal journey, but practicing in a sanga—a community of like-minded people—changes the energy entirely. Here is a look at the shared practice we build together.

A glimpse into a group Hatha Vinyasa class at a retreat in Varanasi. You can see students of different backgrounds moving in sync, each focused on their own mat but sharing the collective energy of the room.

About Our Community in Practice

In my retreats, we don't just roll out our mats next to each other; we hold space for one another. Whether it’s a morning session in a Varanasi shala or a quiet evening in the Sahyadris, the goal is to shift from solitary practice to collective support. You will find that when you struggle with a difficult arm balance or a sustained breath, the person beside you is going through the same process, which removes the pressure to be perfect and helps you simply be present.

The Power of Sanga

When we practice alone, it is easy to let the mind dictate the limits of the body. In a group, we create a sanga—a circle of shared intention. This is not about competition or showing off asanas; it is about the collective discipline of showing up together.

What Happens in Our Circles

During our retreats in places like the quiet mountains of Maharashtra or the holy grounds of Varanasi, the community element is just as vital as the Hatha Vinyasa flow. We start the day with sunrise Pranayama to quiet the mind before the world wakes up.

We also make time for Satsang. These are not lectures, but simple conversations where we discuss yogic philosophy and how to bring what we learn on the mat into our daily lives in the city. It is often during these shared meals and walks that the real practice begins—when we stop performing and start connecting.

Who This Is For

This space is suitable for everyone, regardless of your level. If you are stiff, you belong here. If you are new to yoga, you belong here. We do not look for perfection in the pose; we look for the breath. Whether you join us for a weekend near Mumbai or a longer pilgrimage, my focus remains the same: keeping the group small, the energy honest, and the practice accessible to all who are ready to do the work.

As the saying goes, Karat karat abhyas ke, jadmati hot sujan—through practice, even a fool becomes wise. Come practice with us.
