Acrylic Painting: Learn to Layer and Blend

Painting isn't just about the final look, it is about the process. Here is a look at how I work with acrylics, from the first layer to the final details.

The start of a painting. Every piece begins with a blank canvas and an idea. Here, I'm laying down the basic colors for a landscape painting on my balcony.

Adding more details to the landscape. This is where the scene starts to come to life, with layers of green for the leaves and texture on the stone path.

Setting up my camera to film the painting process. I then start blocking in the main shapes of the mountains with a base layer of grey acrylic paint.

A work in progress shot of an acrylic landscape on canvas. I'm using a fine brush to add details to the trees against the sunset colored sky.

A quick timelapse of a sunset painting using acrylics. This shows how to blend colors on the canvas to create a smooth gradient for the sky.

For me, painting is a form of therapy. This video shows my process of painting a large pink rose, focusing on the different shades and shapes of the petals.

Another look at the rose painting process. I use a reference image on my tablet to guide the colors and shapes, but I also add my own creative touch.

A timelapse of a Megan Fox portrait using acrylics. I wasn't planning to use paint for this, but I'm happy with how the skin tones and hair turned out.

I almost finished this painting, but decided to add a background. Sometimes you have to make unplanned changes, and it's all part of the creative journey.

About Exploring with Acrylics

Acrylics can be tricky. The paint dries fast and blending takes practice. Whether I am painting a landscape or a portrait, I often have to make quick, unplanned changes on the canvas. It is not about being perfect from the start, it is about building layers and seeing what works. Painting is my therapy, and I am happy to share how I navigate the canvas during our sessions.
