A look into the heart of our Gurukul, where we trade shortcuts for slow, honest practice and a warm cup of chai.

Watch a live watercolor demonstration from our classroom. We believe in authentic, hands-on learning, guiding you with real techniques to help you discover your own artistic style, not just copy ours.

Here, learning is a personal journey. We keep our groups small to ensure every student receives dedicated one-on-one guidance, helping you understand the process from the first wash to the final detail.

This beautiful watercolor landscape, created by a master artist, represents the level of skill and artistry we aspire to cultivate in our students. It's a reminder of what's possible with practice and passion.

"Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet." We nurture not just technique but also the quiet discipline required for art. This image captures a student deep in focus, embracing the patient process of creation.

Our classroom is a vibrant community where artists of all ages and backgrounds come together. This shared space is filled with quiet intensity, shared discoveries, and the energy of people growing their skills together.

See the incredible detail and life that can be achieved with acrylics. This close-up of a portrait in progress shows the high level of skill our certification courses are designed to build.

A flip through a student's watercolor sketchbook reveals the story of their progress. From simple floral studies to more complex compositions, each page marks a step forward in their creative journey with us.

Hear directly from one of our students about her experience. Rediscovering her passion for watercolor after 20 years, she shares how our structured guidance and positive environment made all the difference.

About Featured

Learning here is deliberate. Unlike quick workshops that focus on completing one painting, our foundation courses are hybrid, where we split time between our Jayanagar studio and Sunday sessions at Cubbon Park to study nature firsthand. You are not just copying a reference image; you are learning how to observe, mix pigments, and handle the brush, whether you are a beginner or refining your technique.

Our Approach to Art

We started this Gurukul in 2011 to prove that art cannot be rushed. Whether you are picking up a paintbrush for the first time or returning to a hobby you set aside years ago, our goal is to help you become an independent artist.

Why Our Method Works

We do not believe in mass-production art classes. We keep our batch sizes small so that you receive individual attention during every session. Our curriculum moves from the basics—like color theory, brush control, and understanding light—to more complex compositions. You will find that our classes focus on:

  • Foundation Building: Understanding the 'why' behind every stroke.
  • Live Demos: Watching the technique happen in real-time, rather than following a pre-recorded tutorial.
  • Process over Product: Learning to enjoy the discipline and patience required to create, rather than just chasing a finished outcome.

The Environment

Our Jayanagar studio is designed to be a quiet space away from the daily hustle. We prioritize natural light and a communal atmosphere where students of all ages can learn from one another. If you have been searching for professional art classes in Bangalore that prioritize authentic skill over quick fixes, you have found your place.

Pencil and Chai

Studio at Jayanagar, BengaluruStarts from 11,500 per course (2 months)

We started Pencil & Chai in 2011 because we wanted a space where art wasn't about rushing. We are not a fancy studio; we are a Gurukul where the focus is on the process, not just the final product. Come with curiosity, and we will provide the guidance—and the chai.
